i HAVE A QUICK QUESTION AND NEED A QUICK ANSWER. i AM MAKING A PROJECT THAT I NEED TO LAY THE NITRO ENGINE SIDEWAYS, CAN I DO IT, WILL IT MAKE THE ENGINE RUN WIERD? GAS TANK WILL BE RIGHT SIDE UP.

It should run just fine. The intake is basically a vacuum, so it should draw fuel, even upside down.

You can do it, but might have tuning issues. The carb would be the problem, not the engine.

I'd have to agree with VB, you'll most likely have tuning issue from the position of the carb. Like on a 1:1 recip engine on an airplane with the carb mounted to the bottom of the engine (updraft carb)

anybody know how the carb is positioned in nitro bikes? I know those engines lay on their back. I wonder if they are harder to tune?

hey Jon, sorry i was in school and doing it really fast, and just before i did this i was doing a project where i had to have the caps on! to big of a hurry.

I don't see why there would be a difference, like Lessen said the nitro bikes run upside down, and in heli's they run in all sorts of orientations during acrobatics. I think most manufacturers don't lay their engine down because it would take up a larger footprint on the chassis.

yes, I agree. Also, it's A LOT easier to shove a glow plug ignitor in through the top of the car.. Ease of use is very important to the mass market.

I've allready seen custom Mt's with the motor's laying down. they didnt seem to have any prob's tuning them. are pulling truck's with multipal motor's some laying on there side's all seem to work fine...

There shouldn't be a problem at all tuning a lot of aircraft have the engine placed in the cowel upside down and you tune just the same way.
