Hey guys I am going out friday nite to look for a lap top.
I want some thing with at least a 20 gig hd 258mb ddr ram
Good vid card dvd cdrw and xp OS.. This will be used to surf the net and watch dvds on trips..What should I get???

Stay away from HP, I get too many laptops to repair lately due to hardware/OS conflicts. STay home and order a Dell on dell.com or get one of those slim Gateways.

I would never buy another HP...I have been told to get a dell..
but I don't want to wait I want it now LOL
Plaid I don't now what the hell to do with the woman I have now what would I do with one more...Well wait I could think of a few things...3 foot tall flat top head ya!

Not too many choices in retail stores and your not getting a new computer in a store simply becasue the time it takes for it to make it to the shelf, it's yesterdays computer at tomorows price. Wait the week and get the Dell.

LOL thats not what I want to here...I hate waiting when I have money in my pocket...I was thinking I could go to best buy or ciurcit city and pick one up.

My opinion..

Averatec has some nice ones. just not a big name.

HP- Have three laptops at work and my fav is the HP. HAs a 60 Gig HD, nice vic 512Mb of DDR ram, wide screen media reader.

Sony- Nice but the name alone will cost money to repair. Like HP it is very proprietary in repairs.

Dell- Well nice set up and price is nice. I think Compaq bought out dell....I think.

TOshiba as they are just damn tuff

I prefer Averatec or Toshiba.

I've got a Dell, had it for a little over a year, it's an inspiron 8600 with a 1.5ghz m processor, 40gb hd, 512ram, 32mb video card, and the cdrw drive, all for $1500. It's a nice computer, and makes homework really nice.

I'm sure you could get a nice dell for under a grand. Only thing i'd suggest, get the best video card possible, I got the base which sucks for high end video games.

So what is your budget?
Any screen size in particular? Wide screen?

Dell is actually pretty good. But, make sure to pick the best LCD option available. In long run, it will worth the extra $$ you pay for.

Ok. If come across any good deal that is available for store pickup I will post it here. I am in search for another laptop as well :)

Did you try newegg.com ? They ship very fast and you can upgrade the shipping to "FedEx Overnight" for less than 30 bucks.

Zandor... Patience will pay off, & save you cash... Go with a Dell... I have a Dell Inspiron that's gotta be 5-6 yrs old now, & still goin strong... Just get as much RAM, & the largest HD you can afford... If your like me, and dont care for high end video games, save yourself some cash on the video card..
My 2cents...

Zandor,
My brother recently got the Dell Inspirion 5160its nice as hell!!! if you want some hot deals check out their refurbished section. and if your fingers itch that bad for a the thing pay the extra $80 like my bro and get it next day (after they are done customizing it!!) the 5160 my bro got has a 60Gb HD and a 512 of ram. the whole point being "

I am happy with the Toshiba I got at Best Buy a month ago, $799.00 after rebates. 15.4 wide screen, 512 megs ram, 60gig HD, DVD player. I can't remember the processor size, would have to check when I got home or call me after work. The nice part is I got to walk out of the store and use it when I got home.

i paid 200 for mine.. hp pavilian 30g hhd 1.5 p4 cdrw dvd player 15in screen 512 md ddr ram and i loaded win xp pro on it

My neighbor just got a Toshiba also from bestbuy. It looks well built and works great.

We can build you a custom laptop to your specs. Will run around 1300.00 depending on what you want in it.

I have a Sony, love it. I also like Toshiba, but for picking add-ons and such, go with Dell. Some of the newest tech and YOU pick what you want.

of all the computers i get for repair, dell by far is the least!!! desktop or laptop.. whatever you do dont get a compaq or hp!! the power plugs on them are WEAK!! if you use it very offten you will end up breaking it.. the only reason i have a hp is the price i got it for!! i have done prolly 30 or so repairs on compaqs where i have to take the whole damn thing apart to resolder and then superglue the power plug back together.. sometimes it works sometimes it dont.. but its a bitch to do and i hate doing it.. i would say dell.. although i love the new hp widescreen (hp and compaq are now the same company) exept for the damn hp name its awsome!!
