Hey guys I am building a Hpi savage SS kit truck. It is an older kit I had sitting around for a few years. Decided to put it together. I bought a Vertigo LCG race chassis to use on it. The truck came with the 4.1 engine think it is the same engine that was on the older first gen Savage X trucks. My question is I bought a new K4.6 engine. Was wondering if the K 4.6 engine is a better performance capable engine than the 4.1. I am running a 15 tooth clutch bell kit came with a 18 tooth. Does this engine have enough power to pull off that kind of gearing. The spur gear is a stock, gear for a SS kit. Also I have to run a pull starter with this engine, because of the LCG chassis. I mainly use the roto starter setup, my question is, will a pull starter hold up decent.

The k4.6 is the stock engine that comes with that kit so you should be able to run the 18T clutchbell. for the same money as the K4.6 you could have gotten a Losi 454 which is a re-badged LRP .28 spec3. Better engine but hind site and all that... :)

No the 4.1 engine is the one that came with the kit. I bought the K4.6 separate.

Well the 4.1 is a sightly ported .25, it was the replacement for the Nitrostar .25. The 4.6 is a .28. The K4.6 is a lot stronger than the 4.1 was.

Thanks for the input guys I normally only build or run traxxas trucks. I have a few savages but this is the first time I have built one from scratch. have found that the roto start will not fit with the Vertigo LCG race chassis witch suks, I am not a big fan of pull starters. I know Tiger drive makes a roto style starter but, i ahve not had the best luck with there products in the past. Is there another company that makes there style of stater. Also I know there are some diff in the engine mounts between the K4.6 and the 4.1 engine mounts I also know the engine bolts in and mesh is fine with it. I was just wandering if the 4.1 mount I am using will be strong enough for the K4.6 engine.:D

The engine mounts are all the same, the only difference is they put a set screw in the front of the mount

Depending on what fuel you plan on running, the roto start may not be for you. I like to run bryons 20% rtr which has 16% oil in it. I used to run traxxas fuel but with that fuel, the excess oil would get over the owb and cause the roto start to slip. Some fuels that have a high oil content will make some owb slip. I have then switched to a pull start setup for my 5.9 and it starts more reliably.

Thanks for all the input guys, I am currently waiting for the new pullstarter to come in. I have no other choice but to run the pullstater. unless I buy a tiger drive roto style starter and I am not a big fan of tiger drive. Does anyone know if the new style HPi servos will work with the older style reviever and by that I meen non FM style, I had one new unused and thought I would use it tom save money. I am kinda old school, been out of hobby for a while so I dont know much about the FM style stuff.

pics added

Just some pics of the build process. Please dont hate on the yellow ok. This is the Vertigo chassis LCG chassis tried to get a pic of the label but its not a good one. As soon as my pullstarter comes in I will be able to finish her up.

If you are using a AM controller the only thing is that you won't make good use of any digital servos. The difference between AM and FM that FM has more channels to access and the 2.4 radios make good use of the digital servos

So you can't use the new SF-50 steering servo in an Am reciever, right. I was thinking of purchasing, the same steering servo used on my older savage X truck. But man the price for those servo's which are SF-2 model are dang high why arre they that expensive.:\

Digital will work in AM radio but you won't make good use of them as to the price of digital servos. All my servos are digital but I also use a 2.4 radio. The servos are Hitec 7985 and 7955. The 7955 price was about 150 CDN with 335 oz torque for steering and the 7985 has 190 oz torque for trodle/brake at a price of 130 CDN.
