Well, the Inferno is undergoing a MAJOR overhaul to be ready for the East Coast bash and hopefully the 8th scale racing season here locally.

I just picked up an RB WS7 II, and am wonderring of the recommended clutch/flywheel for such a mill in a buggy setup.

For now, I have orderred the following:

Fioroni Turbo Sliding Clutch

Teflon / Glass - Smooth - White Clutch and Springs

Shim Kit for clutch/Flywheel

OT-FR51.jpg

OT-FR53.jpg

I'm wonderring if their would have been a better setup first and foremost, as well as whether or not the compound I chose will be ideal for racing. The other optional compound was a carbon clutch which you can see here:

Carbon Clutch Setup

Looking for feedback.

Thanks,
Chris

I bought the exact same setup, but have'nt installed it yet.
I too went with the Teflon/Glass setup.

I also have it but I am using the carbon clutch. So far I love it great snap off the line with the P5. I just placed an order for a Mod. Mac engine and they told me I have to mod the clutch a bit for that engine.
From meganitro: The difference between the Teflon and Carbon clutch shoes is the material. One is made of Carbon, which will engage more aggressively. The Teflon will provide a smoother transition of power. Carbon = hard launches, abrupt acceleration, Teflon = smooth acceleration

i got the the fioroni sliding clutch + flywheel with the carbon pads.

this is how i set it up ...collet then flywheel, pads with the side with 2 springs against the flywheel, small shim (not the shim that comes with the pads) clutch bell.

my question is, do i have to use the provided shim? its seems to rub the clutch bell when i tighten it down...i don't have that problem with the small shim (same size shim used on the standard 3 shoe clutch set up) i can tighten all the way down and the clutch bell spins freely. the large provided shim looks as if it would hold the top spring in the clutch pads, wouldn't the top of the clutch bell serve the same purpose?

did i do something wrong?

thanks
RCatl

I had a thin large one from my old clutch that I used. The large one is to hold the springs and shim but the one that came with my system also hit like yours. From a guy at the track he said he didn't use the large one and the springs moved out and ht the clutch bell. I have my clutch then larger thinner washer the small thin one then clutch bell.

Wow. I'm glad I decided to wait another day with my purchase. I almost clicked the buy button for the turbo sliding clutch and the teflon shoes.

Great question Chris. I was asking my self the same thing last night.

I'm still going to run with the teflon/glass. I think I will have more subtle control over the power band that way. If the WS7-II is as powerful as they say, then the carbon may give too much bite, and, possibly, wear faster.

The info on the shims is GREAT!

I orderred the shims JUST IN CASE, and it seems like it was a good choice.

Maybe Ill order the carbon setup too, just to check them both out.

I got one of these things on my good old little GS B01 engine and it's pretty sweet. I have the Carbon shoes.

The engine almost sounds like it's bogging when I slam the gas, but it's just because the clutch grabs a lot better and there's less slipping. The engine doesn't have to work as hard.

I've noticed lower temps on the engine and better pickup.

If I had a crazyass engine in there, it might be worth going with the teflon shoes but I dunno, I like snappy acceleration no matter what.

Where to get the clutch

Hey guys can you help me out in where to find that clutch. I do not know where I can buy them. Also what kind of cost am I looking at.

Here is my current set-up.
Dynamite 7075 towers. Fr and R
oil filled difs ( duh)LOL
7075 steering arm
bearings in brake plate and servo saver.
dual rate shocks.

Can someone recomend servos? I am going to upgrade and am not sure wich way to go. I know that digital is the way to go but can't afford that yet.

Thank you
Darin Gray

Pretty darned sure he has a Storm.

I'm actually wondering where he got his servo saver. Does the Storm Pro Servo Saver have bearings? Is it the adjustable one? I really want to upgrade my steering setup, I have some binding issues.

I couldn't really recommend a servo; I have a JR 650 servo for steering. It's not that great; it's like 140oz. But it's better then the stock 90oz and I put the 90 in the throttle position. Makes for some good brakes. I can steer well with the 140oz, but I'm sure there would be a good deal of difference with a 200.

As for the clutch, I got it from someone here on this forum. I'm pretty sure that you can get it direct from GS, since they sell Fioroni directly (I think) which is unlike the GS Racing parts where they only distribute to stores (Sure wish they sold direct..)

ps. off topic. If anyone has a wing mount set for the Storm and is willing to sell it, please let me know.. can't find one anywhere.

You can buy the Fioroni parts through Meganitro.com
The full clutch setup, will run you around $60 shipped...

I would recommend the Hitec servos..
HS-645MG Ultra Torque (Steering)
HS-525MG (Throttle/Brake)

I have ordered both a 3-shoe aluminum clutch setup with both 1.0 and 1.1 springs as well as the Fironi sliding clutch (teflon shoes) for the new .26 thats on its way for my Inferno. I can use a standard CB with the sliding clutch setup right?

I'm going to be running 15/46 gearing and I should have everything installed and running in the next week or so. I got both so that i keep whichever works best on the buggy and the other goes to the Savage.

I'll let everyone know the results.

Yea Zandor I deffinitly had a brain fart there. I am running a storm RTR With the stock 21.

For the steering I got the bearings at my LHS, The adjustable servo-saver is on Back order( permanently I think) I just swapped the stubid palstic plugs ( bushings) for bearing. Works really well. I noticed I actually get extra run time out of my reciever packs now that I reduced most of the drag.

Thanks for the help on the servos. I am looking at getting a new powerplant soon. I am going to run this one for this season and grab one during the winter.

The only thing I need now is a pipe.

So far I am very happy with the Storm. Its kinda fun being the loadest at the track, since I have been called a load mouth once or twice.

:OT: Umm and what does that have to do with the sliding clutch topic that Christian was asking?

I placed an order with Meganitro on the 23rd of April but it still hasn't shipped. Their website mentioned they would have new stock on the 23rd so I thought what the hell. Well I just get an e-mail last night to let me know they are backordered! WTF? It took them that long to let me know it was backorderd? They say they should have some more today. We shall see.... :(

Crazy I have only had good luck with meganitro. Must have been a brain fart. Hope it all works out.

Sorry Robriquez I guess next time I will waste the time and space to start a whole new thread. I just thought I could kill two birds with one stone. SORRY It won't happen again.

Well the parts for the clutch came in yesterday and the first thing I noticed is that the flywheel diameter is MUCH smaller than the existing ones on any of my engines. Thankfully I dont run any but the Savage without a pullstart because i can't see how a starter box wheel would ever be able to fit up into the slot to reach the flywheel.

Where did you order your parts from robriguez? I still haven't receive my order from MegaNitro. :(
