DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMIT!!!!! I am so freaking impatient. I just talked to the shop I ordered mine from (Ultimate Hobbies in Orange, CA). It turns out I had to clear up a shipping address issue. And as we were talking, I asked how many he had left. He said they were already sold out EXCEPT for mine which was in his hand. How much torture is that? My Mini-T is sitting in Cali right now. Just waiting to be sent to it's new loving home. And I have to wait a week for it. That sucks!!! I've got my battery pack ready. I even brought one of my huge jumps in the house. And I hear there's a cardboard jump included with the truck.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!

My first impressions of the Mini-T

I have to start off by saying Support your LHS! Thanks Jake! www.jphracing.com You know how to treat your customers.

My first impression out of the box was good. Many of the parts are scaled down versions of the full size truck. All the parts were there including a universal tool for the tire nuts and slipper. Included are some ride height spacers and a little ramp. It comes with a Quick Start guide as well as a full manual.

The radio that comes with it is a lot better than I expected for a $139.00 RTR. Its not all that solid and uses a cheesy little tire for the steering wheel but works well for the application. The cool part of the radio is that it includes a steering ratio adjustment.

First thing I did was pull the slipper cover and check the mesh and slipper adjustment. Much to my surprise they were set correctly.

I then installed 4 batteries in the stock holder. This is easily accomplished by removing 1 body clip from the radio/speed control unit that then flips up. While it was open I also threaded the antenna wire and installed the tube. It comes stock with a 4 battery holder but has room for 5 batteries abreast and I believe a 6Th can be added on the front or back. One thing that bothers me is the on / off switch just kind of hangs there.

I clipped on the little red body with the supplied body clips witch for my fat fingers was the most difficult part. I will replace the clips with a single wire I have from my micro. Without hesitation I began to toucher my cat. Inside the house on the wood floors it sticks like glue. The truck handles better than the cat. Reverse works well and doesn't take to long to kick in. Over the little bump to the carpet and around the living room and back to the wood floor without loosing traction. (Poor Cat) Inside the house its a blast.

Out the the front of the house we go. Down the drive into the street. In the street it shows its first weakness. FASTER DAMN IT! I see the need for more Juice and a better motor for running in a larger aria. Up the drive down the sidewalk and over the curb. OUCH! Can you say pan slam. The second weakness shows up. Shocks will have to be on the top of the list for up grades. The stock shocks are coil over nothing. Going mid speed from the street to the driveway there is about an inch curb, again SLAP! Definitely needs a better shock setup.

I have now been running my Mini-T at near full speed for 20 minutes or so with no decrease in battery performance. I'm using a freshly charged set of 2000 ma. I ran it for 3 min at fill speed with 4 bats and the fins on the ESC were luke warm to the touch. Ill be interested in seeing how it holds up to 5 or 6 cell packs. The ESC and radio are one unit that may be swapped out for other equipment if so desired. As of this point I see no reason to change.

Back to the table for DAO (Damage Assessment Overview.) Hmm the front right wheel isn't spinning freely. Losi used little plastic inserts instead of bearings in the front wheels. I must have warped one during a hit. Add bearings to the list of upgrades. I swapped the collars around and it spins fine know. I put the wheel back on and the camber on the same wheel looks weird. Losi used a little threaded rod for turnbuckles. Bent! I straitened it out and adjust the camber using a credit card as a gage and all is well. Need to add turn buckles to the upgrade list. Everything else was still in tip top shape.

All in all this is a kick ass little truck out of the box and will do just fine for a living room racer. If you just can keep things as they are I'm sure there will be a plethora of aftermarket parts out soon. A little bird told me that there are several Micro RS4 parts that are interchangeable with the Losi. I don't know this for a fact but......

I would like to thank HB for donating his Mini-T for testing. This evening I will take mine out of the box and have some fun.:boxing:

Thanks for the review Ed. It's a real man who will willingly break a friend's car in the name of science. Now you know what to look out for when you actually got yours out of the box...

One other thing I forgot to add, the diff seems a bit noisy. If someone else that has one please let me know if they think the same. I understand that Losi is coming out with a ball diff for it soon.

I couldn't think of a better persons to RC to test. You know the first thing HB is going to do is beta test it off the roof of his house. I thought I would just prime it up for him.

Were talking bigger than the roof my friend. I got a 150ft cliff at the beach just screaming for me to Evil Knievel it.

I got mine... It is a bit loud Shocks SUCK I heard if you can add think grease to help them out.... can't wait for the new wheels to comeout and yes It has good handleing I was shocked Everything is sooo cute on it.. lol But i do see more room for speed... And they could of made a few parts stronger BEWARE of the servo I heard it breaks easly so dont break it or you will not be able to play with it for a while no other servo fits as of now

I want a picture with the top off, somebody please post one as I will not get my hands on my broken Mini T until Friday!

just got mine. when i got to the store i knew the guy and he said they didn't get an instore beater so i let em take mine out and play with it for a few. mine was the second to last one they had with the other being for a guy who had it on order. anyway while they were playing with it 5 other people that walked in placed orders while watching people play with mine.

overall after about 1/2 hour of play in the house. good little jumper :) a bit noisy. shocks stink. overall very cute and worth it.

The new phone books are here! The new phone books are here!!

Thanks for the review Eddy and the list of "watch-outs".

Blazer, you're a good man. Tell me if you want a closeup of something new and unbroken.

It does need some more speed. It's interesting how the reverse works. While moving forward, pushing the trigger forward applies the brakes. If you hold the trigger forward, the reverse kicks in. Is this how all the new electrics work? From a standing start to reverse there's about a one second delay before it kicks in.

I figured out I can turn it on and off with a screwdriver through the fenderwells.

Yes this is how an electric ESC works with reverse.
On the better ESCs you can program the delay time. As soon as the servo issue is dealt with on the Mini-T I will use a SPY ESC designed for the 1/18th scale electric RCs.

I have just built a 5 cell pack. I will let you know if it makes much of a difference in speed.

I have heard that Orion has released a new motor called a Baja for the Mini-T

-Ed

A 5 cell pack makes all the difference in the world.
It goes from a great toy to a decent RC.
can't wait for the new motors to come out as well as the shocks.

HB, Ill leave it outside the front door of the store for you.

I also just made a 5 cel pack for it and it does make a world of difference.

Fasteddie: on a side note, it's because of comments like yours and that attitude that the progress on openmaxxx wont be seen by many, including yourself probably. kinda funny that fea will be run on most parts and yet i'm the one who get's harassed when i want to do something for everyone....

yeah it's a sad day imho

anyway back to the mini-t, anyone know if they are going to have a double pack expansion or addon for shocks. it looks like they planed it so that you could if you wanted to run 2 on each wheel.

edit: btw i am working on getting some thin titanium to replace some of the parts on my mini-t. i just dont think that the plastic will hold up. sorry nothing open with this one, you can guess who to blame.
