I just got my savage in today. Opened it up....and wow! Well just looking at it, it does look alot harder to work on than the tmaxx. I didn't get to break it in today because it got too dark by the time I opened it up. Well I have a couple questions now:

1) Will it affect break-in or performance at all if I don't upgrade the 4 gear differential set or the cam servo saver at this point in time? I didn't realize I would have to take so many things apart to install these upgrades. I planned to do it but later down the road.

2) The manual doesn't say whether to adjust the HSN/LSN first. What adjust ment comes first?

Save the gears till you blow out the diff, as for the needle always set your HSN first then adjust your LSN accordingly, the HSN also affects the LSN so make sure your HSN is set before messing w/ the LSN!

i did the silicone diffs before i started running it.leave the needles factory until you break it in. if you need to adjust while idleing through your tanks adjust the idle screw only.

dont touch your high speed till after the third tank, and make sure its up to temp before adjusting it!

:redbuggy: it doesn't affect it all the 4 differential does is give you better steering. the cam servo helps protect all your eletronics. so you dont really have to put in either, but i recommend at least putting in the cam servo. :buggy1:

:sheep: have fun with your savage, mark :sheep:

if you are lucky you may have the newer Savage 25 rtr with the newer mods, like the Spider diff mod, and the Cam type servo saver.

Yes I do have the new mods, but unfortunately I have to install them myself and with myself sort of a newbie....I'd like to wait till I really have to do it. Is it me or is the savage a little smaller than the tmaxx?

LOL sorry Bro but you are soooo wrong! Not making fun of you but the Savage is bigger than the Tmaxx. FOR SURE. The Tmaxx is a 1/10 scale MT and the Savage is an 1/8th scale MT. If Traxxas came out with an 1/8 tha scale MT then they had better think of a Big Block MT.

Congrats on the purchase. I don't like the maintenance of the savage but hell it is fun to me.

Yeah...I haven't had a chance to break it in yet but looks to me that its hell to clean and maintain. I just sold my tmaxx to buy my savage but I do give the tmaxx props, it was easier to clean/maintain for me.

INCORRECT. The 4 Diff mod is a more solid and reinforced version of the difs which strengthens your differentials. Instead of just 2 spider gears, it'll give you 4 and a more stable surface distributing the stress points. Steering has nothing to do with it.

I would suggest doing the spider gear mod before you run it hard. If you don’t the cross pin wears a grove in the diff housing and its downhill from there. Also, wile you have it apart you might as well do the steering mod. When I purchased my first savage, I took the whole thing apart just to learn how everything goes together. Plus I put thread locker on all the screws during reassembly. I beat the :censored: out of my savage and it always comes back for more.

I suggest just doing them now, it'll just save you from blowing sometime down the road. The cam servo saver increases handleing greatly and the 4-spider gears will prevent you from blowing them later. You'll be very frusutrated if you are out on a bash and your diffs go, mine aswell do it now while theres no dirt and grease all over it.

just dont put a collari .30 in it because the 4 spider diff wont help, it will be blow out time!

If the savage is bigger, how is it that the savage and tmaxx have interchangable parts? (tires, wheels, bodies, etc.) I'm not trying to be a smart ass but I'm just wondering why.

Tires just fit a wheel and the wheel just has to fix the hex. Look at the jumbo kongs and 40 series ... just have to fit the same hex but different sizes of tires/wheels. Bodies can be trimmed to fit but look at the overhang in the rear. It's only a lid. Put the 2 trucks together without the lids and the size is different. That's probably why the Maxx has a .15 and the Savage has the .25 or 4.6.

But isn't the t-maxx faster than the savage? But on the other end, the savage has more power than the tmaxx right?

My Collari powered diffs have lasted over a gallon and a half. I only rebuilt them to put in a higher wight oil. Bevel gears still look brand new.

I hear the roto start sucks like hell though. Does anyone agree with that and if so what could I use in its place if mine happens to break?
