At 37 years old, I just donated for the first time ever. I hate needles, always have, since I had to go get shots every week when I was a kid for allergies. But after reading an article recently about how low the blood banks were, and being I'm O+ which anyone can take, I felt like I should.

My one complaint, buy a damn cooler for the drinks they give you afterward.

I don't mind needles, but every time I give blood it takes me hours to recover for some reason. I'm not even fit to drive afterwards. LOL

Congrats on donating, it really isnt as big a deal as you think once you have done it, I've donated several times and it never even phases me, guess it must be my size. I like you have universal blood but I'm O-, so a lot of times they send me mail or call to see if I can donate.

Never done it. Not affraid of needles but I am still not ready to give any of my blood...

Yeah, being not so keen on needles I was a little nervous about, but there's nothing to it. They do it here at my work, so I even got paid to lay in a lounge chair and surf the net on my phone for an hour. :D

I do not like needles at all.

I tell them you want the blood thats fine just do not show me the needle

I have been giving blood 4 times a year since 1995 and i know that i am helping someone and makes me feel good that i am helping someone

they are now asking me to come and do platelets since i am AB+
that is where the hook me up to a machine and take the platelets out of my blood and put the blood back in me
the only problem is i would have to drive an hour each way and it takes about an hour to do the process.
i told them if they can come closer i would do it but they say there is not alot of these machine around

Don't mind needles, but seeing my own blood in larger than paper cut quantities makes me queasy. I've lost conscience once in the emergency room after removing most of the fingernail on one of my digits.

I knew this would happen! Thats okay I have 90% of my zombie over-run supplies ready! :hehe:
