  1. Bashing
I am new to the forum and I just bought a used truck from a friend who bought it with a seized 2.5 motor. He pulled it apart and freed it but that is how i bought it. My questions what should i replace in/on the motor before putting it all back together. Or is it not worth the trouble of rebuilding and i should just buy a new motor?

I would probably buy a new engine. It depends if the motor was seized or just stuck. If it looks all scratched and nasty inside then it would be an easy choice. A new 2.5 for about 85 bucks or a piston/sleeve, rod and bearings for more than that.

Get a NEW engine off ebay.

The engines are not cost effective to rebuild.

Should i buy a 2.5 to replace it or should i buy a 3.3? If i bought a 3.3 what would i have to upgrade with it to handle the larger motor? (sorry i am new to this hobby)

Depends what 2.5 maxx it is. If it's got a black trans, then you would at least want to ditch reverse and install a forward only conversion. Then replace what breaks with something better in the future.

I'd get the 3.3. 2.5 just isn't enough power IMHO to lug around a t-maxx. It will do it, but a 3.3 will do it better, easier and cooler.

I had a seized motor so I sprayed some WD40 in it and let it sit a day or two and tried to turn the clutch. Eventually it worked. If it isn't scratched up then it should be fine.

The book that comes with it says it is a 4910. So if i go to a 3.3 i don't HAVE to replace anything else like the transmission or differentials or anything? And the forward only conversion was already in list of upgrades i was going to put on it

my recommendation is to stay away from the traxxas motors, yes there ok, but i have had so many tuning problems with them. thats why i switched to the Sirio 18 tx motor i belive it can be bought brand new for $80 but i got to look again. as for my motor it was a direct drop in for the 2.5 motor.

Traxxas engines run well. You just have to make sure they're sealed properly. If you are wanting something besides a Traxxas engine, I wouldn't look at anything besides an O.S.. The .18 is a great engine, though I don't know how hard they are to find. I'd clean the engine you have really well with fresh nitro fuel if the sleeve isn't destroyed. Soak it over night with the back plate, head and carb off. Soak them as well. Scrub it clean and make sure it turns over smoothly. Then seal/reassemble and start at just shy of factory settings. New fuel lines, glow plug, sealed tank cap, and fully charged ignitor are other must haves.

i got a 3.3 off ebay for $120 last year and just took out the old 2.5 and put 3.3 in even the motor mount works. i used the old exhaust, one way bearing also.

just buy the new 3.3 cost to much to rebuild and the 3.3 is a direct replacement. You will be happy that you picked up a new engine with power and you will not have to worry about the old one suckin all the time.

I have gotten the 2.5 up and running using many of the things i was told to try. After the cleaning new tubing new wires glow plug and fuel it started right up. Now I'm just buying parts to upgrade it for some bashing! :)

That's good you got it running. Have fun and break something. Lol

When doing a shock rebuild the shocks should me as full as possible correct? I think black shock oil is probably bad... :D lol I have RPM Two Stage Shock Pistons coming so i think those should help :)
