Well I have made my decision, but now I am looking for tips.
I am joining the United States Air Force.
I will be going to boot camp over the summer/fall,August or so?

For those of you in the Air Force, what is some advice you can offer. Through Tech school, I plan on becomeing a Flight Nurse. Any help with that either would be greatful.

Thanx in advance.

I learned two VERY important things while in the service.

1. NEVER volunteer for anything.
2. Never fart while wearing a hooded rain poncho.

Good luck to you. Hope you found that helpful.

lol thanx,
I dont plan on farting in a hooded rain poncho. Oh what about those biohazardous suits with thier independent air system? LOL you just keep breathing in the same fart over and over.

I never used one of those, but I'm sure proper farting instructions will be included.
If not, bring it to the attention of the big brass.

Are you sure its something you wanna do right now? Esp with all the war stuff going on? I mean dont get me wrong, I'm greatful for our soldiers and back them up 100% but chance are good youd be going over seas with in the next 5 months after joining. I just keep hearing about the deaths and stuff. Mn had 14 deaths so far this month. I know it aint much but still...I dont wanna die yet. But either way, just make sure its what ya wanna do. And the boot camp question is you usually leave 2 months after you inlist. Good luck

If I am fighting for what I beieve in then it is no dirt on my shoulders. Plus I wont be there, i got to go through tech school first. I am going to be a flight nurse, and that training is about year and a half long.

If you think we will be out of there in the next year and a half, you got another thing coming. I have been in for almost 16 years. I have been all over the world. Hard on a marriage, but well worth the cost of freedom

Hey Zoomer - Good luck to ya bro. If I ever joined the Service it would either be the Navy or the Air Force as that's where the smart one's go...or so I've been told.hehe. I've got lots of relatives that have served our country well, many in past wars and some with serious injuries.

Rolex - Lol

Whatever you decide make sure to get things in writing. Don't just go on a hand shake and a promise. A good friend of mine went into the Navy after high school and received the shaft on something because it wasn't in writing. He ended up getting what he wanted but he has to cut thru a lot of red tape.

You can learn ANY trade you want in the military, and when you get out you will have the knowledge and experience that will instantly get you a civilian related job.
Well, in most cases.
I heard of a guy who spent months walking the streets of Manhattan looking for a job as a flame thrower.

Yeah most of them is right, not mine though. I am in Ammo, you know, the things that go boom. :)

lol cool guys. I got my MEPS, I guess that is how you spell it, next week. I am going to try and stay with in the medical field, but if not I am going to do something cool in inteligence. I got a good score on my ASVAB they said, "You can chose pretty much what you want, if it is open." So I am prolly going to go Aeromedical (flight) Paramedic and be going to school the entire time till I get my Masters Degree in Nursing, or Bachelors either one. Then go to medical school. Once I get my nursing, I wanna be an Aeromedical (Flight) Nurse.

I am really excited! but my girlfriend is a bit bummed out about me leaving, first 6wks for Boot Camp, then another 23 for Tech school. But oh well, Life will be good after that.

Thanx for all ur support guys, I will keep everyone updated.

Try to get that guarantee in writing man, honestly. If you don't get it in writing, you fill out a dream sheet, and you may or may not get a desireable occupation. Most of the time, you do get something that you want, but there are a few horror stories. And and if you are in shape now, you are even with the power curve. Alot of people used to call it the US Chair Force, but that is no longer the case. Good luck to ya, and when you get a chance, let us know how you are doing.

Get healthy now! PT can drain you both physically and mentally. If you can be totally physically prepared you will be one step ahead of the game. While others are nursing their beat-up bodies you can concentrate on the mental and intellectual side of boot camp.

Have a great time.

yeah, getting everything in writing is a big deal! I made sure I got copies of all the paper work that he has given me so far.

Yeah physically I think I am in a weee-bit of shape. I have been running everday and doing sit up and puch ups. Running a mile for me is now down to 8min 35sec. and that is with a quick water break in the middle. Keep the feedback coming, it is helping!

Thanx all!

Well said....

The biggest mistake I've seen people make is they go into bootcamp after tons of partying and seriously out of shape.
