I bought a set of Anaconda tires off of ebay the other day. When I got them I discovered that they were for the Jato where the front wheels dont have a hex they just have a bearing from what I understand. The auction that I bought them off of said they would work with any 12mm hex cars or trucks. I bought them for my rustler conversion I'm doing. Is it possible to replace the front hex on the rustler with the bearings that the Jato uses?

i don't think so i have a jato and rustler and have tried to remove the hexs and put on my jato's front tires and while they will go on there there is no way to tighten up the nut since the axle rotates in the spindle on the rustler. if you can get them to tighten down you will play hell getting them back off i had to use a pair of visegrips to hold the axles on the inside to get the nylock nuts back off.

I think you could use the front end parts from the jato to have that setup on your rustler here are the links to the parts you would need to do the trick.. I have not done this myself just looked at them both (cause I own both) and it looks like it would work with out a problem..

the only other things you would need are the barrings... just an idea if you wanted to convert your rustler front to take jato front tires..

are the tires on the rime (the ones from ebay)? if so could you take them off the rimes and put them on the pther rimes? just a thought don't really know don't have a jato

Ok so heres what I've found out so far. I have two Rustys. I bought both of them used. One was Just a roller I bought for spare parts. The first Rusty that I bought has had aftermarket aluminum arms and hubs put on it that gives it hexes in the front. It looks like the previous owner may have bought the parts for the VXL rusty and did a conversion in order to use different rims and tires in the front. the roller rusty I bought I decided to convert to electric and it indeed does have bearings in the front which appear to fit in the anaconda rims but when tightened down it compresses the bearings and does not let them spin freely. Apparently they must not be exactly the same because this doesn't happen on the rusty rims that work.

The guy that I bought the tires from said that he lost some of his data when his computer crashed and he went back to using some old descriptions they say that any 12mm vehichle would work. He said since his post was misleading he offered to send me the carriers and the bearings from the Jato in order to make those rims and tires work with Rusty. Anyone have any experience with that? will those parts fit the rusty and make the wheels work?

Thanks for the input Matt Taylor. sounds like you could answer this question for me since you own both. If he sends me those pieces will I need anything else to go along with it to make it work?

Alright this is what i found, the the jato spindle fits into the lower a-arm just fine but there is about a 1/8" gap on the upper plastic tie rod but i also have a nitro stampede and them splindle look like they would be exact replacements.

the jato one's are a lot more beefy and make your frontend a little wider but probably take more work to get them to fit right.

nitro stampede
part#2632r
part#2536

if the tie rods are too short than a set of jato tierods would fix it..
and for the rusty being set up with bearings you need a bearing on the outside of the rim aswell.. that is why it isnt spinning I bet look at them and see if there is a bearing in the outside part of the rim,,, if not slap one in there and try to put them on again...

both of those part numbers you lsited there are the stock Rusty parts apparently as well as Stampede parts. I just looked up the exploded front view of teh Rusty. Do you have something other than stock on your Rusty?

I had a bearing on the inside and outside of the rim but unlike the rusty front wheels when I tighten the nut down it compresses the bearrings somewhere. When I took my Rusty wheel off the only thing there is the two bearings and a small plastic shim between the inside bearing the block holding the spindle. From looking at the exploded view of the Rusty it looks like there is actually some kind of spacer that is ssupposed to be in there as well but I didnt see any such part when I took mine apart unless it was still inside the rim. The part number on the exploded view is actually 5149 which is actually listed on their website as Jato wheel spacers. Maybe this is why It was compressing the bearings....I'm gonna have to go back and look at my rusty again after lunch and see if I left a spacer in the Rusty rim that is needed to make the Jato rims work on the stock spindles.
I'll check it here after lunch.

My rusty doesn't have the spacers but it still works fine...gonna order the spacers and see if they dont stop the bearings from being compressed when the nut is tightened down.
