The hydroplane has been started. I'll actually do a build showcase when it's much further along.
It will be put on hold when my plane gets here Sunday.

Look at you Mr Boaty McBoatfrog 😄

This is going to be so cool man! You just designing this on the fly? Or are you working from a plan?
All I have is a print I grabbed off the web but it don't have any measurements.
I did look up the size of a 1/8 scale hydroplane and they are 36" x 18".
Shot in the dark for sure but I'm ok with that, it's more of a challenge and more fun.
Going with this.

You should have no problem laying it all out from that with your skillset. I have always though boat building was right alongside airplane builds as far as coolness goes. All the curved wood planks and details. I have a BUNCH of basswood. I should play around with something like this.

I've always loved woodworking and even more so off the wall woodworking stuff.
This plane and boat building I really enjoy but far from good at it.
I'll get better though.
I have a bunch of basswood sheets and I'm going to trace each and every part from the plane kit and then build one from scratch.
Basswood is really good to work with, not too hard and not too soft. Cuts easy, glues up well, doesn't break very easy when you get pissed off and throw it against the wall. Ask me how I know that.

Didn't know gas motors came this small. Gonna watch this build.

I'll do a little research but you may be right Chub. It may require a smaller nitro engine instead.
It's all good though.

I cut out a cross member and put the hole saw through it for a little weight relief.
I also glued in a side section. I'm actually working on the bottom of the boat.
I'm not ruling out electric either. So much cleaner than nitro.

Just use the minimal expansion foam so it doesn't 'expand' and blow all your hard work apart!!! 😉

This is the "R/C imagination" that you were just mentioning, hard at work! 😎

I love speed boats! Fell in love with drag boats like "Suck My Wake" on Lake Winnipesaukee years ago... before the 55mph speed limit. 🙄

I knew a guy who ran a hydroplane with a 2300 mustang 4cyl eng. It was such a cool boat!!! 😍

This build reminds me of then. Good times! 😁

Now you got me thinking, an RC turd in a public pool would be awesome! imagine chasing people with it. 🤣 🤣 🤣
THIS is your 'million dollar idea"!!! 💩 🤣
If it was cheap enough, I'd buy a six pack of em! 🤣
