Hehe true true Ok mabe not the house but just some crazy 20 foot air!!
But that would be sweet to see it flying over the house that is untill it landed :hammer:

OK, so time to wrap this up. Last night finished all the structural. Step 1 was the engine. That involved installing the flywheel, clutch shoes and clutch bell. After a little pause to get some help here, it went together easily. Also installed the polished dual-chamber pipe and upgraded air filter.

Then it was a matter of dropping it in. Ummm....no one told me what a trick it was to wedge that thing into the chassis. I finally figured it out. But it took a minute to shoehorn it in. It fits well. Yes, the front right rear shock is perilously close to the header. We'll see what happens. Once that was in, it was time for the linkages. I'm using the stock linkages for now. I am amazed that HPI would make a nice truck like this and rely on their same cheezy linkage. But it looks like it will be tolerable for now. I'll convert to a more precise linkage soon enough. And lastly was to plumb the fuel system. I took this time to do the Uniflow mod. I did the simple version which involved installing a one-way valve in the pressure line. Then adding a length of fuel tube down into the fuel tank from the lid. That was an easy mod and I hope it make it run more consistently.

Then the wheels and tires. No surprises there. I trimmed the corners off the foam inserts to keep a more rounded edge on the tires. Then they went together without any hassle. Popped them on and it's ready to rumble.

The only thing left is the body. I started a design tonight and it quickly turned to crap. I realized I was over my head with the design I chose. So now it's sitting clear, looking for motivation.

Of course now I'm on break because someone.....dropped a bomb in my work area.....

That thing looks sweet bro... I saw a cool article on painting rims the other day, that you might want to try... I'll probably try it out when I get back from the challenge..
Use liquid mask to cover the protruding chrome lip of the wheel, then shoot a transparent/candy color over the spoke area of the rim. I would then probably shoot a clear coat over it, but thats your choice. Then peel away the mask, and you have a colored rim with chrome ring... It looks awesome when done... Just a thought for the creative R/C'ers here, like yourself...
Wish I could join ya for a bash session.... Someday soon I hope...

Thanks TJ. I'm all up for a bash. I won't say anything about your troubles at ECB II!!! Some candy wheels would look insane cool. I bet those Spaz Stix Anodized Hard Metals would work. They're supposed to be translucent so they can be backed in chrome. And there's tons of colors.

Anyway, I was going to go totally insane on this body. I was going to try to do some "True Fire" ala Mike LaVallee. Well, about 5 minutes in, I realized I was way over my head with that. Way over my head. Luckily I was able to wash out the body and get it back to clear. So I sat here wondering what the hell I should do with it. Then I realized I was way overthinking. This body is for running. It's not a show body. It's going to be my basher. So why put 3 days into a bashing paint job, right? So I decided to go simple. But at the same time, I had to give it some flair. So that even when bashing, she stands out. Because even an ugly chick wears a dress to the prom, right?

Creative... care to share your secret on the texture trick? lol I like...

Oh, and those SpazStix Hard metals will work perfectly...

I like it! Did you shoot the red and sponge it?? Then lay down the black...

That's an old trick I decided to dust off tonight. Like I said, I just wanted a simple 5-minute paint that I wouldn't mind thrashing. Actually, those pics don't do it any justice. I'm going to put it on my portrait bench with some better lights to see if I can get a better pic.
Anywhooooo. The primary color is Faskolor Candy Apple Red. If you've ever seen it in person, it's actually like a metallic red that shifts to a metallic violet depending on how you look at it. It's more purple than anything. But anyway. I masked of course. Then threw down a moderate coat of the red. Then I took some plastic wrap and pushed it down into the paint. I kinda mushed it then lifted it off and hit it with a hair dryer to dry it. I did it a second time with a lighter coat so there would be different shades. Mushed the plastic wrap all over then dried it. Backed it all in black including the plain black bed. Silvered the bumpers and that was it. It took me maybe 30 minutes to paint it including flusing the brush between colors. And it looks pretty F---ing cool sitting there. I'm going to hate to run it. It's got that new car shine!

That's pretty cool..... I'll have to give that a try... I'm sitting here, with painters block, trying to come up with something cool for the HPI Challenge..
I need to shoot it tomorrow, or I'll be running clear... lol

Here's a pic with a little more light. I still can't get that color to really show. Cheap ass 2 MP cam....

And dude, I hate painter's block. That's why I didn't paint much this winter. I was just drawing constant blanks. I think it's starting to break a bit. But now I have no projects. That General Lee just really tapped me out for a while.

It does look good, doesn't it? I seriously was just throwing paint. But it's sitting here and growing on me. I just love that new body look. Like right when you peel the overspray film off. It will be a shame to run it. I'll splash a 40 on it the first time I roll it. One for me, one for my homies....

killer paint job :), now go get pics of it jumping over your house lol

Damn Bro that lis is off the hook. Hook me up with a lid won't ya?
