Thoese pics bring me back... One thing to watch out for is the right inner rear shock hitting the header. It does a # on It!

I think it's going to be a bit before I get the shocks on, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. What's the solution aside from new shock towers?

New shock towers....LOL

And a set (4) UE supper maxx shocks...

Ahhhhh screw that. I'm broke!

OK, tonight went slow. Mainly because I actually did the 5K diff fluid first thing tonight rather than last night. I lied, sorry. Anyway it also took a little while to get the radio box just right. Even now it's probably not perfect. It's hard to cram all that stuff into it. Anyway, it worked eventually and buttoned up fairly nice.

Once that was done, it was a matter of attaching the box to the front clip, and then slipping the front and rear clip into the main chassis and screwing it all down. Once that's done, it starts to look like a truck.

Next up is the shocks. But since it's late and that takes a while, I'll leave those until tomorrow.

looking good so far candyman. i never got to build my savage because i got it off a buddy of mine. fortunitly though, he knew what he was doing and it has all the upgrades the 4.6 has minus the engine.

aaaaaahhhhhhhh its naked!! lol i still need the 5k diff fluid and a radio so i think i am going to get at the shocks to keep me entertained for awhile. its my first time, I will let you know what to watch out for, if anything.

has this build been easier than you expected, it was for me

Ahh, a Savage rolling chassis. What a beautiful thing.

More and more converts to the Purple Side. :D

Candyman you need to talk to NCNITRO on hooking you up the way he hooked IMBROKEN with the throttle linkage mod!!!!

looks schweet. makes me want to strip mine down, clean it, and put it back together. cleaning wouldn't do any good as i live in the desert. cleanliness is next to Godliness.

a good radio is a xs3 i found one on forum for $120 shipped and included reciever. thinking of selling receiover though and gettting a novak xxtra

XS3 is a bomb TX and so is the XXtra. I got both and well worth the money!!!

i was reading a review mag and the k46 topped out at 38mph. i read somehwhere else some guys topped out at 37mph. I think HPI got the 44mph using the 3 speed.

my next up-grades are
nova cooling head
nova alum clutch shoes
ue or msr5 shocks (undecided)
3 speed mod
tank one way air flow mod
alum diff cups
alum bulkheads.
alum turnbuckles
upper and lower arms are staying plastic for some flexability.

Yeah. That's the only mod I haven't prepared for yet. But since we haven't seen NC since the April Fool's thing, I'll have to wait until he resurfaces.

So far the build has been easy. It's just a matter of reminding myself that it's not going to go quick. So I take my time to make sure it's done right the first time. That's why I'm expecting the shocks to take a while. No sense rushing it and having a crap ride, right? I do like the way it's designed, but what I have heard looks true. That it takes a bit of effort to work on. Seems like you have to remove a lot to get to some pieces. But I ain't complaining. It's a thing of beauty.

Yeah I did like that more about the MGT and Tmaxx. The open pan chassis allowed more access easier than the Savage. No worries I still love it.

I go mine form Towers for $419 with shipping. Towers here in the states do not charge more then $7.99 shipping on anything I have ever ordered and I have spent a lot with them. I do not have my running yet as I am going to up grade to FM on this vehicle because I have to go to a 3 channel for reverse. Will up grade my others shortly after I get it for my Savage. The only problem I had in building it was getting the clutch shoes springs on and that was not a real big deal. HPI kits and instructions are the best.

OK, tonight's progress. It was a slower night as it was "shock night". And building 8 long-stroke shocks took a fair amount of time. But that was the first order of business. For the most part it went smoothly. And here they are:

Then it was a matter of mounting the shocks on the chassis. I took a minute to make sure I reversed the top mounting bolt for the rear shocks as it's my understanding that if you mount it with the nut towards the fuel tank, it can puncture in a heavy hit. A little preventive maintenance I'd say. And now it stands on it's own.

Next was the steering links and rear camber links. No big problems there. Just the usual pain in the butt threading all the ends on. That got the blocks all tied up nice and the suspension runs nice and smooth. And the last step was the bumpers. Now the basic structure is buttoned up.

And a quick ghost body shot:

Next up is the powerplant. That will be for tomorrow. Getting close to done.

One question for those who have gone through this. Right now, there's an open screw hole on both sides of the handle. Will that remain open? Will there eventually be a screw there? Did I miss something? I looked through the manual again and didn't see any step that involved attaching anything in that hole. Hm.

Nope those remain open. I was curious about that too went I built mine.
