Ok Fellas/Ladies,

I am noticing something about my Slash that was starting to bug me a bit. The car starts doing a "stutter". I looked in the manual and it says the following: 1. Motor capacitors broken or missing - check and replace capacitors, 2. The receiver ot Antenna is to close to power wires or the batteries, 3. Bad Connections - check wiring and connectors, 4. Motor worn - replace the motor, 5. Excessive curent to motor - use milder motor or a smaller pinion gear.

Now, this being a new rig, I can pretty much shoot down 1, 4, and 5. So I look at numbers 2, and 3 and do not see anything that looks like a bad connection, so I am down to option 2. The receiver to Antenna is to close to power wires or the batteries. So ok, that makes some sense being that I set the receiver on the ground next to the truck and it will seem like it is about to launch. I go and buy a ramp for the rig now and am thinking everything is ok. (By the way, batteries are brand new and the pack is fully charged and I wait for the charged battery to cool down first before I mess with it too to make sure it does not run super hot.)

I start making a couple jumps with the rig and then I notice something else happening now. As I drive the truck back by me it is like stalling. The best way I can describe it is like it is stuttering when I drive it. I am not seeing any connections that are loose (thinking maybe something might have come loose from the jumping) but do not see anything. Any ideas as to where I need to look now?

On another side note, I am reading in the manual about the adjusting the Slipper Clutch and wanted to do as it says about the Achieving a good starting point for the slipper clutch, i have to adjust the nut clockwise until the slipper clutch adjusting spring fully collapses. When I am trying to adjust it the back wheels are moving and I am not getting anything. Am I being two gentle and thats why I am not able to adjust the slipper clutch or the little movement I am feeling on this already is exactly what I should be looking for?

Check to make sure that the pinion gear is not loose and slipping, make sure the spur gear still looks good and the mesh is good. Did you recharge tha batteries in the transmitter?

I actually took out the batterys in the transmitter due to they are rechargeables thinking that maybe they were not getting fully charged and then bought some new batteries for it to try it out with that and it still did it.
I will try the pinion gear tonight to see how that looks along with the spur gear and let you know what I find there.

I know these type spinion spur setups are bad about spinning the pinion gear loose, but I don't know if it would slip momentarily. When I spin mine loose, it's usually all or none.

ah there ya go. Mine always sling loose where they're just spinning in the pinion, there hasn't been any kinda about it, but I was running them pretty hard. I would definitely check to see that the pinion is seated correctly and tight.

My first guess would be the motor is on it's way out. The Titan in the Stampedes and Rustlers running on the xl-5 (same as the Slash) is known for not lasting very long.

Yea, the one in my rustler lasted me a whole 2 days, then the second one lasted a week, then i got the third one and sold it before i even ran it again.

traxxas has great products, great service, but really, really crappy electronics

That's y I'm waiting to pick up mine, because the day i buy the slash, I'm buying the brushless setup for it.

did not have time to take a look at the pinion last night, I am hoping that I can take it apart here at work today if I get some time (Maybe at lunch) but will definatly look at it today

Ok, I am sorry I am posting this late, but I did finally get to looking at the pinion gear. From what I can tell it is not loose. So what did I do next? I recharged the battery and tried it again just to make sure that it was still doing the stutter and wouldn't you know it, it ran fine. (Except when I got the receiver to close to the truck then it started jumping again.) Either I tightened the pinion without realizing it or it was something about the last charge that it did not like and was causing the fit. All and all everything seems good to go now.
