Is this worth it

I was at the LHS and seen this, and thought that my son would love it...he has a real blazer like that only its stock and white in color....

It comes with 2 sets (8) wheels and tires and a bunch of other stuff.
they want $350. for it and it needs Electronics....I know nothing about Crawlers

well it is a super, and i think (charlie will forsure it) they use two motors usually but still for $350 id prolly buy it.

Its pretty badass, for a superclass rig. You would need some nice sized obstacles for that thing to even be somewhat of a challenge.

You could get him a 2.2 class rig that looks much more scale and can look alost identical to what your son drives. The wheels and tires are closer to scale as well as the wheelbase. The supers are nice, I'm about to build an XTM super. The only thing is, the super class is dying all over the country because so many people are competing in the 2.2 class. If I were you, I would ask the guys at the LHS where the nearest crawling club is, go to a comp, and see what they are running. That way, you will be sure to get the right rig for the terrain, and when he falls in love with crawling like the rest of us, he can compete with the equipment he has. Also, the 2.2 class rig will be A LOT more budget friendly, and there's a thousand more parts that he can customize it with, which is another reason that the super class is dying. So see what the guys in your area are running, and go from there. If he's not planning on competing, I reccomend a 2.2 class rig because there's a lot more places that he can crawl with a 2.2, and since you guys go on a lot of ATV rides, the 2.2 rig is easy to pack up in a little box on the four wheeler and take it out with you to find some nice remote places to crawl.

Our LHS has a comp every third sunday morning but i can never remember to go and check it out. He will see it on Thursday and if he likes it he may buy it himself...if so Charlie i will take you up on the info...Thanks everyone

Let him know that if he wants to build a 2.2 rig, which is about the same as that one but more to scale size, but still VERY capable (the axial is a nice example of a 2.2 class rig), I can help him get everything together to build it, or I can locate one for him to buy. The axials are A LOT of fun, and there's thousands of parts to hop them up with, and lots of mods that he can do for free to start turning it into a worthy comp rig.

Tell him that the electronics are going to run about the same price as the truck, because he'll need two big servos, two motors, and at least a speed control. along with a battery that will support two powerful motors. Oh yea, if he needs a radio system, then he'll need to add a lil more to the budget.

I have a G-made chassis on its way in the mail. At $350 you're getting a $100 (+ shipping cost) off from buying it direct, and yours will come with a painted body. I don't compete or ever plan to so having it qualify as super class makes no difference to me. I'm just looking to build a rig that will tackle any tye of terrain I throw at it.

Also, I think that crawler that he pictured has a lot of aftermarket parts on it, so there's no telling how much someone put into it. The G-Made is really nice stuff, I'm considering it hard when I build a Super, but this XTM is hard to beat. The quality is unbelievable, as the only plastic on it is the body, the rod ends on the bottom of the shocks, and the spring perches. Everything else, even rod ends, is made of aluminum.

It's probably lighter than your axial, with a MUCH lower center of gravity. There's no tranny or driveshaft, and the motors are on the axles. Basically the chassis is just a piece of aluminum with four links and the shocks connecting the axles to one another.

They're saying late August or early September. If you like the idea of the XTM, you know you can build a berg and have the same design in a 2.2 scale rig. After seeing with John Robert Holmes and Chip have built, I'm about to start looking for some axles. I just want to put two puller motors on something for gosh sakes!

Well, I went to our LHS and they still have the Crawler there, and they reduced the price from $350. to $235. I didnt get to talk to my son about it much...I next phone call with hiim we will talk more about it..

I was looking at it for awhile yesterday and it did look like they changed the tag. I looked back on my phone and seen that it was $350. and $235. I should go and get it today

If you but it and don't like it, I'll pay you exactly what you have in it and the shipping, so I don't see where you can go wrong. I think this G-Made kit retails for around $400-$600, depending on which kit it is.
