Well i was breaking in my new Picco .26 and was letting it idle this is on the second tank of idleing. I let the first tank idle on dirt but the second tank i did on my cobblestone walweay and i didnt want to get oild allover it so i put a few folded paper towels under the exhaust. Now after the second tank is done i picked up the paper towels and looked at them and there are quite a few small pieces like almost dust theres just a bunch of sparkles all over the paper towel i took the engine apart and they woernt there so it happened while breakin . Is it normal to get aluminum particles during breakin?

doesn't sound normal, BUT, they could have easily been millings from the pipe itself.

Ever since my PIcco .26 aquisition, I have learned to tearn down my brand new mills before running them even once, just to make sure Q&A did their job at the manufacturer.

It may also be a good idea to rinse out the pipe and header as well.

I'm just shooting in the dark here so take it all with a grain of salt.

yea i did tear it down befor i installed it. And also the pipe was used before with my S25 so its not from the pipe but also I've never noticed it befor with other engines because I've never put a paper towel under them either.

Did you tear it down and clean it? Or just tear it down to look at it? (that came accross kind of dicky... but it's just a question)

You are more than likely going to get some residual bits as the piston breaks in with the sleeve, but it shouldn't be a lot. It may not be a bad idea to tear the engine apart and clean it out completely with q-tips and alcohol before fireing it up again.

I hope you just blew out some dust from the manufacturing process, but it doesn't seem right that you would see that on the second tank. With an airplane engine, if it doesn't feel or sound right in flight, they are landed and checked out. If there is a sparkle like powder in the oil dripping from the muffler, it's known as "making metal". Not a good thing. It means it was too lean, starved for lube, and running hot.
When it comes to breaking in an engine, I prefer to run the first few tanks so rich that you need to keep the glow igniter attached to keep it running. Then when you start to do the rest of the break in while driving, you can watch the smoke trail to know how rich it is.
Hope yours is okay.

seems to be running fine it was in no way lean it was as rich as it would go befor it wouls stall. I put 2 more tanks through it driving around and this thing has unbelivable power.
