is this a ok temp. gun

this is the only temp gun at my lhs, just wanted to know if this temp gun was ok for my savage .21 DuraTrax FlashPoint Infrared Temperature Gauge :fro:

those temp guns are nice, but none of them are very accurate I have used the bad horise one and the ofna one, both give you a round about measurement, but fluctuate badly, its not as accurate as a venom temp gauge, or a pistal grip temp gun.

I find that the ones made for real engines are the ones that are accurate, they are also the ones that cost 75.00 - 150.00 dollars and are as big as a radar gun.

I use a raytek mt4 and I found it quite reasonable at http://www.bradystools.com/thergunminte1.html and he ships quick too.

The handheld temp guns like the Raytek and a few of the others will give the most accurate readings. I've seen threads in some of the forums with complaints of temp readings being off by as much as 20-40 degrees on the onboard equipment. HVAC suppliers usually have some of the better prices on temp guns.

I got radio shacks. It seems fairly accurate. I don't really have anything to compare it to, other than boiling water.

The radio shack one uses a raytek pc board in it. I use that one myself, and I compared it side by side to the raytek pistol grip one, and they both had the same temp reading. For the money you can't beat it.

That would be the one that Error put me onto. Great temp gun. Works great and fits in the pocket comfortably.
