I think this is why my engine wont start anymore. It lost a little compression too which is why I thought i needed a pinch, but now I'm thinking i need a new piston. Input?

Wow you smoked that one!!!!!

Does it move? What does the conrod look like? How are the sleeve walls looking when at BDC???

If thats fried then my 2.5 was scrambled. I just used to take a pice of steel wool and polish it up then blow it off with a comperssor just to get the crud off the head. Seemed to work good.

That may work here Bryson...for sure...that is why I am curious about the condition of the rest of it.

Just so everyone knows I don't know poop about engines.....just the bit I have learned from you guys and experience....so take my observations with a grain of salt.

Talon I think you know a little more then me your older and wiser and more edumacated lol :smart:, but I can deffinatly see why you want more info on this one! Or you could carefully take a razor blade and scrape off the gunk then clean it up with steel wool. Just be carefull.

I dunno....we need to see or hear about the rest of it to make a call....and hear from of the Power plant gurus here.

Oh I may be older....but that just means I have been dishing bull longer....so not really smarter...just more crafty.:mex:

It's no biggie, scrape it off with something that won't mar the face of the piston like a sharpened popsicle stick. All that is is build up from the oils and additives in the fuel.

It may be, but you can take some Mother's Metal polish and a Dremel with the polishing and buffering head and take all that crud right off! I've done it to a couple mills and it sure made starting easier. You can do the same to the sleeve as well. Just use a light hand with the Dremel then rinse everything out with DA when your done.

ahhh, welp. After further inspection, my sleeve is cracked in some parts. But my conrod is perfectly fine. I guess ill just get a whole new piston/sleeve/button unless a new engine would be a better decision? I had about 4 gallons through this one.

It's breaking in nicely, Buggyracer28. Another 7 or 8 gallons and you can start to lean it out for more performance.
hhahaa well, i was planning on 10-11, but i guess ill take the risk...

If I were you Id just compare a new mills price to that of all the replacement parts. Just my 2cents

looks like you may need to put the cylinder back in. That may be the loss of compression. Just yanking your chain of course (Waiting eagerly for those lids is more like it).

The rod looks brand new!

Even though the rod looks brand new they are weekend by normal running and that old rod most likely wont be able to handle the stress of a new piston and sleeve.
If the rod breaks because of the tight pinch that comes with a new piston and sleeve the broken rod digs into the piston sleeve and ruining it and your piston and possibly your entire engine!

Buggy racer some people repalce their rods after breakin. Just because it looks new don't take the chance!
