I was recently looking @hop ups for my LST2 and came across LST FORWARD ONLY TRANSMISSION CONVERSION KIT....

I then started to ask the question why? and as yet haven't thought of a reason!!!:ponder:

Does anyone know???

Less weight and less rotating mass in the tranny.

It's worth it. Plus you can switch the two steel gears in the tranny around to give you a little more topend. A tiny amount of dremeling needed to make it work though.

It's close to the same as putting two extra teeth on the pinions.

Wow... Is that really the case?... I've been trying to find some after market solutions that will allow an upgrade C/B spur combo that makes more top end. Reverse is hard to let go for me, seeing that I am still a basher at heart. Any suggestions on gearing taller?...Oh,.. excuse me please... I do mean to hyjack this thread.

This, all at the cost of losing reverse?

I have the aftershock and a friend of mine has the LST2. He never used reverse and has since pulled the reverse servo and wired the reverse shift lever so it's locked into forward.

I did the gear swap mod in my AS because I run smaller tires than stock. I like the smaller tires as they create less leverage that the big ones when you land wrong or hit stuff. I've probably run around 3 gallons through the chassis with various engines. I've yet to break an axle carrier or c-hub. I've broken 4 stock tie rods though. Not a real biggy. I'd rather break that than an axle carrier or c-hub. They are relatively easy to swap out for a new one.

With the gear swap and M26SS stock engine with smaller tires and a HPI polished pipe, the LST2 with stock everything and my AS run just about neck and neck at top speed. Mines much more snappy off the line than the LST2. I'm not sure why though... the stock engine in the LST2 should put down more power than the M26SS. I loose him right off the line and stay ahead of him in a drag race. It could be the lack of rotating mass as was mentioned. The AS doesn't have all the junk in it the LST2 has. The AS has a single speed trans (always on high) and no reverse gears or servo. It has the two speed spurs, but not the HIGH/LOW switch on the trans or the gears to support it inside the trans. Top that off with lighter wheels/tires and it's a really snappy truck.

Now that I have the LRP28 spec 3 in it, he will be seeing the back of my truck quite often;)

Hey, Olds97. Sounds like I'm going through the same process of discovery with with my LST. I bought it over a year ago and am now just getting around to breaking in the Dynamite 28 I dropped in it. It came witha 26 but my bud needed a upgrade motor for his Savage 25. After seeing the proformance the 26 produced against my Savage 4.6 SS, I was convinced of several things. One) I must really like this guy to part with that motor,... It does well in standing up to the chalenge of the 4.6 with some good top end. Two) Dynamite makes great motors for the price. Three) The Mach 28 will serve as a good upgrade to any 28 classed RTR motor. Anyway, Just hearing your comments about the comparisions to both Losi trucks is good to know for my own choices for my LST. I definately want more top speed out of the thing, for sure. I've been spoiled with the HPI three speed that resides in my Savage. Your observations with the susspension and tire size was also a good point to know. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Olds97. I'm just now facing all the little things one has to find out from a new owner perpsective with the LST. I can use some good info from those who know the things to avoid...You follow me, Olds97?....lol. I'm also picking up a couple of Z28r's from LRP. Please, give me a shout about your insight with the spec 3. Take it easy, Olds.

No problem.

If your looking for more speed, losi makes a CB that's one tooth taller on both gears than stock: http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=LOSB3342

Stock LST, AS, LST2 has 18/25. The other is 19/26. Not a lot larger, but it's larger. It might be a necessity with a larger engine throwing down some real power.

If my LRP28 burns up the LST 2-speed assembly I just got, then I will have to figure out what's better next. Hopefully it holds up as the only part number thats different between the LST and LST2 2-speed is the gear cover.

The CB and clutch are different between the LST1 and LST2 though. The LST1 had a 3 piece CB and composite shoes. The LST2 has a one piece CB and aluminum shoes (that suck). Dynamite makes some long wear aluminum shoes. I'll stick with the composite ones on my aftershock until they cook. My bell housing is all blue... kind of like a gun barrel.

Thanks for the follow up, Olds. That's good info for sure. Geeezzz... I hope the LST tranny can hold it's own against a the LRP z28r's. You'll have to tell me how you tranny holds up with your mill unless I can tell you first with mine. I don't expect them in until the end of July. Have a fine one, Olds. I'll keep you posted on my discoveries.

Hey Olds, sounds like music to my ears...I'm going to start posting this subject content as you've indicated on the your other thread... chat with ya there.
