I bought a 17" LCD monitor 2 1/2 years ago, and it went bad (with 1 dead pixel). Luckily I bought an extended warranty when I bought it from Bestbuy.

So, I went to bestbuy with receipt in my hand today hoping for a replacement (same model or any 17" will do). Guess what !!! The model is discontinued, and I was pissed for 30 second before the staff tell me that I can pick one monitor for the same value or less.

I paid 649.99 for that 17" monitor. With that 649.99, I can buy a 19" LCD. So at last, I grab one LG 19" monitor to the customer service and pay for the extra $30.00 because the new monitor is $679.99. LOL, and i also get a $50.00 mail in rebate. Actually I get 20 bucks back :)

My advice to those who planning to get LCD monitor is to get extended warranty. Also ask for more details. Bestbuy policy has changed and will only replace it if the monitor has 5 or more dead pixels. The warranty I bought 2 years ago was they will exchange no matter what happened. I guess the 99 bucks I paid worth it :)

Comp USA's warranty program say that if the product you have warrantied no longer is in production you get a free upgrade to the level about what you bought. But still either warranty is worth it.

Nice I am going to pick up a Flat panel soon. I always buy the Ext. Warranty!! It is money well spent!
