is it just me or do the standard traxxas servos really suck? my steering was sluggish on my t-maxx so i replaced it with a JR standard servo from an old electric car i had. the response was much better and the steering was quicker while moving with the only down side being not being able to turn the tires while stopped. my old traxxas servo did the same thing so I'm not phased by that but is it normal for the traxxas servos to perform that badly?

Yep, the steering servo is underpowered. Wont turn the wheels while stopped. ESPECIALLY in grass, especially with any upgraded parts ( added weight) especially if your not using a hump pack ( more voltage )

I like Futaba, but Hitec is really good too. Be careful when choosing, you don't want to stray too far stock in terms of servo speed, just torque. 120 oz/inches is minimal for steering on a maxx. Also I wouldn't even consider one that didn't have metal gears and ball bearings for steering. On throttle make sure it at least has ball bearings, and 90-120 oz/inches would be good. You'll want to get one that's a bit faster or just real high quality there. You want your throttle return spring to be able to do it's job. That's the main reason why a faster one with more torque is good....easier to push back if you lose power. You should have a failsafe anyway.
