The track has been very dusty (what's new), and I'm running a pre-filter with my motosaver filter. I left the pre-filter un-oiled as I thought that might be too much. After yesterdays run, the inner filter looks as dirty as it did without the pre-filter. Can I oil the pre-filter, even a little, and not disrupt the engines breathing/tuning ?
Thanks.

Sure - but keep in mind that it may attract more dust than usual. Maybe just slab some on the inside of the prefilter. This way it stops more from going through it.

I tend to think that an entirely dry filter vs. an oiled filter will posess different airflow properties. Nothing that can't be tuned for.

Another thing to consider is the dust cover for your MotorSaver filter. They work very well.

I thought that this foam jacket (pre-filter?) was a dust cover. Maybe I'm missing something here. If you have a link or a pic of a motosaver dust cover, that would be great. Right now I have this gray piece of foam, about 3/8" thick that goes over the outside of the motosaver unit.

Since the prefilter only covers the round part of the filter housing and not the end. You should try and block dust from entering the end of the filter by cutting a piece of scrap lexan to fit and put it under the cap. This will allow air/dust to only enter the filter through the prefilter.

Thanks to error401 for this suggestion on another thread. Sounded like a great idea to me.

Great links Çh®i§tiªñ, and robmob brought up what I think might be my problem. The end of the filter is still exposed, or rather, not covered like the barrel portion of the filter is. Got some work to do before I head out for the day. Thanks guys.

here are some pic of my t-maxx after the Florida Bash. Thats the Motor saver ar filter, with water/mud/ dust deflector and a custom made tube thingy. lol. I ran about 6-8 tanks and this is what my air filter looks like.

lol - could you imagine how bad it would have been without it hehehe

maby it would of been better if i ran with a body on. i have a full roll cage so i usually dont run with a body. it was so dry and dusty down there compared to NY. that thing looked like brand new before. i cleaned it and lubed it before i left for florida. time to get a can of Nitro Cleaner and a new foam insert. Usually it takes me a month in NY before my air filter gets that dirty.
