Searching around on youtube tonight and I seem to find a lot of videos on people blowing up their trx 2.5 and 3.3 motors. However when i search f4.6 or k5.9 engine blow ups, nothing comes up. This must mean either hpi's motors are too valuale too blow up or they just wont blow up.:hehe: Just thought that i would point that out!

i never owned any of the motor stated, but i hated the trx.15s. i prob. had 10 of them in the past, they all blew. i had them rebuilt and tuned by the hobby shop, still blew. that's what steered me away from gas...

i started grinding the shafts off the os.12cvx motors and replacing the trx.15s with them. i never had a issue with a os.12cvx.

i know my input wasn't very helpful. but from my experience with the .15s it steered me away from nitro. i sold 2,000 dollars worth of rc stuff for 3 or 400 bucks. this was also about 10 years ago though.

Actually, I think it would be more a problem with newbies.

Kid with zero experience walks into a hobby shop and asks which nitro truck to buy. The hobby shop clerk sees dollar signs as he shifts his eyes to the endless shelves of Traxxas parts, and says the T-Maxx or Revo would be a perfect starter. The rest well, is in the videos that you've been watching.

I wouldn't say it's a crappier engine, just that it's the kids with no experience using it.

I think hpi's engines are outnumbered say...20:1 by traxxas?
Traxxas is also a marketing machine, they know how to target those little spoiled qaarts and other dumbazzes who are too stupid to keep one running. Not to say Traxxas vehicles suck, but there are ALOT more trx engines out there than any other.

I tried to blow a 3.3 once, it revved to the moon for about 30 seconds with no flywheel then stopped.
I tried again after it cooled, same thing.
On the third try the front bearing fell out and the crank pin broke....should've used a flywheel.
They can take a hell of a beating so long as the break-in was done well.

Hey Wolf, the diffs in my Maxx stand up just fine to an LRP .28.....:threadjacked:

Yeah my old school maxx with twin .21's did better too with stock diffs. Its just something I'm gonna have to figure out whats causing it. seems to be a manufacturer error. I assume the gears got messed up because of the shimming. Why the bearing failed, i have no idea. So, nice diffs but the bearings can still fail :)

Yes they can true...... mine are shimmed up damn tight into FLM hybrid bulks so they should stand up pretty well.

no doubt... the gears i replaced yesterday look good but now the bearing failed. not sure how to shim a gear i can't really see. The pinion gear is in the back of the case so when you set the diff in there you can't see or feel the mesh at all

Pretty sure it requires modded diff cases and possibly bulks. I know FLM makes a "bulkless" diff case for 1/8 scale diffs. Back in the day unlimited engineering had a full 1/8 diff kit for a maxx.

However, by the time you bought the diffs, the cases, axles, cups and any other hardware for the "upgrade", you were about 2 nickles shy of a new savage price... The the trans would grenade on you...

I'm really surprised how well my revo is holding up to BB power. Aside from the trans anyway. I'm two gears shy of full RRP steel in my trans now. Forward primary and FOC I'm sure will be the next to go.

Yeah I'm dreaming again. I was wondering about these diffs for my embe, but it already has flm bulks, I don't really wanna buy more. The only real diff problem I have is pinion bearings.
