Do you have the 3 speed? I assembled mine as a kit, and there were 2 adjustable clutches, but only one is accessible without tearing the entire trans apart.

If you have the X case, all you have to do is remove a total of 6 screws, and you'll have the 3 speed assembly in your hands.

Unless you're a poor soul that has an old style .21/25 case... Then it's a lot more involved.

I think at one point, HPI was attempting to engineer access to the inner clutch on the 3 speed (hence the three adjustment holes on the X case), but couldn't make it work.

A pity, really. But, it's not all that much work to get at the 2nd gear clutch.

Taking the case apart is the easy part. Getting it out and back in is ridiculous. A seriously major tear down. When you get it all back together and the shift point still isn't where you want it, it's another half day to try again.

Get the X case, Rolex; even if you have to use that silver paint and clear-coat like you did on the rollbar, it's worth it. Six screws... Takes all of about 3 minutes (including the time it takes to dig out the screw driver).

It's a direct fit to the .21/25 TVP's.

I've thought of that too, just painting it, but before I do that or have it machined, I'd still like to know about the 4 piece I heard about. I don't want to do all that work, or have racer machine it, only to find that there's a better case out there that's specifically made for 3 speeds.

Don't want to derail here, but I guess we've reached the peak of the trans question....
The heli is a Century Falcon .46 nitro, with the Super Tiger engine. About $700 in it. All bushings replaced with ball bearings, and loads of spare parts including all the stock bushings, unused. It could use a new canopy (sunburned) I'll be keeping the receiver since its' channel is for my radio, and it will need a gyro. It's not a little electric, it's a 4 footer. I've been asking $450 through the LHS, but if you're interested, we can work out a sweet deal.
I'll get some pics up in the Aircraft forum this week.

Sounds like a sweet heli, but like I said, I was just curious. I've always wanted to learn to fly one. Haven't done it and too broke anyway.

From how I read it, Heartbreak is talking about the same case you want. Maybe you have an older case and need the newer one.

I don't know about a 4 piece, unless you look at it how the parts come on the tree. The top and bottom parts each come in halves.

Unless you meant that there's a case out there that the bottom comes off like the top on the X case. That would be awesome.

Racer, I learned to fly the hard way, then after the knocking knees and the profuse sweating at the flying field I got the simulator.

I have the trans with the rubber plug with 3 caps. I'm now starting to think that it's factory set, and probably for 1st to 2nd. From 2nd to 3rd would be the one you'd want set to come into the maximum torque curve.

Pretty soon I'll be tearing it down again to install some new parts, and while I have the trans out, I'll open it up and study it. I didn't do much figuring when I put in the 3 speed kit, so I'm not quite sure which shift point it is.

Well, hold off on the trans case for now till I find out if there's something other than the stocker.

Yes i do, i bought the fully assembled 3speed tranny and i just have to play with one screw to adjust the 2 shiftpoints. I dont get why yours is like that...:surrender
