I had wanted a pet for a while, but didnt want anything like a cat or a dog, due to me living in an apartment. Good idea or bad idea?

Back in high school a buddy of mine had a ferret, he was a little shy until he got to know you but he was very cool!

They are awesome! BUT you have to play with them alot or get them a exercise ball or a playmate (another ferret) They are extremely energetic. I looked into getting one or two for awhile and decided against it mostly cause they are illegal to keep as pets in Cali... stupid laws. But ya they are good pets. They do tend to get into stuff though. Very adventurous. i heard if you don't interact with them enough that is when they start getting aggressive.

I had a ferret a long while back and it was cool as hell, but like Brandon said not legal in Cali, so we found it a new home, make sure you don't leave any thing of importance laying around they like to take things and hide them. Oh and they like there litter box in a corner, they back into it so that no one can come up behind them, kinda weird but smart, LOL!!!!!

I had two ferret's back in the day... meanest lil things.

I had one once, wasn't mean at all, actually very friendly, but damn it stunk! No matter what I did that critter stunk. I ended up giving him to my Brother, I just couldn't deal with the stink anymore.

I've done alot of research and the stink comes from some glands behind their ears, and a stink-gland in their anus. Like a skunk. She came de-stinkglanded, as well as spayed, so according to all of my research, the spaying should reduce the smell by up to 95%!! She is extremely entergetic, and once i move into my new apartment in the next 2 weeks, she will have an entire walk-in closet to herself to play in. with litterboxxes and all. HA.

i had one with i was younger.. they have some SHARP TEETH! they like to knock over boots to. once they are over, they will loose interest though.. kinda funny.

I've read that their attitudes are like dogs. Raise them with a kind heart, and they will be nice. Be a douchebag to em, they will be mean.

Absolutely! You have it as a kid, so it hasn't got any bad habits yet. I always get an adult abused or neglected dog, because once they know they can trust you, and they'll no longer be beaten, starved or ignored, they spend every day of their lives doing things to thank you for the way to treat them.

Every time I go to the pet store... I almost buy one. Although, beings I'm married and my wife likes cats, we have cats. Ferrets are cool little creatures though.

I've never really been around one, are they or can they be like a cat or dog meaning will they become attached to you or are they more like a gerble or something that just hangs around, not much personality, not much "emotion"?

Honestly i have seen more emotion with this thing than i have seen in most dogs, and cats dont show emotion..... they are all just stuck up bitches. lol Even after one day/night together, she was running around the living room, when one of my buddys came over this morning, and she saw him, then ran straight to me, crawled up my pant let and shirt and sat on my shoulder just staring at him.

That's cool.

I think about getting another little dog every once in a while. We're not home enough to give it the attention it should have.
Pain in the ass getting someone to watch it if we leave town too.
