Sup guys,

We've been doing allot of T-maxx racing outdoors (road but mostly offroad) and we've been doing allot of hill climbing and rock crawling lately. I've seen people running most every kind of 40 Seris Proline tires and their Maxx's, Savages and others. IMHO and IME nothing is better for a large all terrain tire then the 40 Series Big Joes and they seem to have the best "contact patch of all the 40 Series" and other brands of tires. For Rock Crawling they can't be beat and I wouldn't run anything else in the upcoming T-maxx rockcrawling champs that we're going to be doing (it's time to gear my maxx low as hell..lol). I've driven cars with the 40 Series tires with the tread patterns similar to the stock T-maxx tires and they work very well in soft dirt and general sand but don't cut the mustard for crawling. If your racing or just wanna dry fast on sand/dirt then you don't want a 40 series size tire to slow you down anyway..lol (I run the stock maxx for dirt racing with good results).

THeir's also like three dudes that romp with us often that have the Jumbo Kong tires and those things are the biggest joke I've ever seen (purely for show and no go..lol but true). One of the guys with the Super Kongs has a pimped out Savage with .26 Pico and the works for low end crawling and he hates them and "wants his big Joes back". THe Super Kongs make your truck very unstable IME and destroy the turning radius.....the guy with the Savage has like a $150 JR Ultra Torque MG steering servo and the tires don't turn for chit. No offense (nothing personal) to anyone with Super Kongs but they're a joke....period and purely for show. TO anyone that wants to buy the Super Kongs...get some real tires.

I was thinking that the larger 40 series tires/rims would put extra strain on the hub carriers and you would be snapping them all the time. Has this been happening to you?

The only reason i think that is due to the fact that i had installed 2.2" mashers on my losi xxx-nt and kept destroying the hub carriers. Adding the mashers only added about 3/4" of hight gain over the stock step pins, but it was enough extra leverage to snap the damn things all the time.

Hey bro,

Sorry that I didn't get back to ya sooner but apparently I spaced this out.

I don't think it's fair to compare 2.2's on a XXX-Nt (own it and love it but still prefer the Nitro Rustler) to a Maxx as even stock the Maxx has allot more inherint strength in it's design.

What do you mean exaclty by hub carriers on the maxx just so where on the same page?? I'm running Lunsford 1/8th scale Titanium turnbuckles wiht the beefy ass plastic turnbuckle ends, Lundsford Ti pivot balls and now I'm running RPM TunrKNUCKLES (I think this is what your reffering to as a hub carrier) with the beffy bearings. I'm also running RPM A-Arms now and loving it.

The stock turnknuckles on the T-maxx are once of the only things that I wasn't breaking in general and especailly with big 40 series tires. IMHO the stock Turnknuckles on the T-maxx are strong but the RPM's are MUCH stronger and bigger. The only thing I was really breaking that seemed to be a direct result of big tires and wheels was the STOCK T-maxx plastic turnbuckle ends. This seemed to be caused by jumping and my maxx coming down on one tire with much tramatic energy going right to that chitty little plastic piece and snaping it of the carrier. The ones that came with the Lundsford turnbuckles are MUCH beefire and I haven't broken once since.

Actually, to get the terminalogy right, i just looked at the parts list. It refers to it as an Axle Carrier/Steering Block (Part# 4932)

This is the equivalent to a hub carrier on the nt. I've broken 3 or 4 of 4932's, 2 rear turnbuckles (one titanium integy and one stock) and 6 turnbuckle ends on the maxx with the stock tires.

This is in a 2 month time period roughly.

A few misguided landing are most of the result to these, but i bumped into a few things when it was cool out (32 deg F) and broke the titanium turn buckle and 1 of the 4932's.

Yeah we where talking about the same thing...lol. RPM and many people here just call them TurnKunckles....anyway. Since upgrading to the Lundsford racing 1/8th scale Turnbuckles with the beefy plastic ends I haven't broken one (and I've done some crazy chit). I would also deffinitley reco the RPM AxleCarriers and the combination of the two is kick ass. If you do break your RPM Axle Carriers they'll replace them for free...period. Traxxass sure as hell can't say that..lol.

I usually use the 40's for hill climbing and rockcrawling but for most jumping I stick with the stock T-maxx tires and wheels. It's gotta be harder on the Truck when your jumping with those big ass tires. TO elaborate a little......we average 4-8ft jumps on any given session and anything over 4ft IME you risking breaking chit that much more. Proper landing's are a plus of course...lol but you can't always help it.

No need to deabte anything...lol. You should have bought a plane or maybe a Savage as they can take it better stock and they''re that much stonger when you beef them up.

Nothing to debate, I'm just trying to help ya out. Last time I did a 10ft+ jump it was on road and the car flipped over mid-air and landed upside and caused $140+ worth of damage. It's not as bad when you flip over on soft sand and dirt but most of the places we romp have relatively hard dirt and it's not pretty. I love to romp the hell out of my Maxx but not to the point of stupidity...eh. One of my 28 something buds dared me to ramp my Maxx off my two story house into grass two weeks ago and I did....I didn't break a thing and it was a good 22 feet of air..lol.

You absolutley need to get the following Lundsford Ti 1/8th Turnbuckles with the beefy ends and RPM Axle Carriers. YOu can get metal Axle Carriers/Turnkunckles from whatever company but I wouldn't. Unless of course you like replacing your weak stock components.

Now how about Hinge pins, are you running the stock ones as I've bent the stock ones to the point that they had to be cut out and I've even bent Titanium hinge pins! Their's a compnay that is suppose to be coming out with redesigned Bulkheads with a new hing pin setup that doesn't break.....we'll c!

EDIT - Olds......thanks for the vid bro, that nuts and look at all the chit he broke but I bet he had fun. The dude here that set his maxx on fire would have had allot more fun if he ramped it 20+ feet in the air..hehe. If you look at the weight of the average Truck vs. that car he rampled though....the truck is always going to break more chit.

i see u guys talking about jumping and turnbuckles and all this so fun stuff!!!:shy: i am currently runnign the supermaxx turnbulkes(damn near indestructable) with the stock ends. me and my friends have a dock jump that we use for our bikes during the summer. it is probably about 3 1/2 feet tall. it is almost a vert but not quite. my friend with his stock maxx usually gets about 10ft high and about 15ft long. my supermaxx will easily hit over 15ft high and 25ft long.

me and my friends were messing with our trucks on that jump las weekend. me and my non-smart brain thought it would be kool to jump onto a roof with it. so, i set the jump up in front of my friends garage. i had about 25 yards to get as fast as i could. i hit the jump, man it was the highest i ever seen the truck fly. the roof itself is about 12ft. my truck was easily another 10ft above. when it landed it was perfect. my only problem was to get it off. so me and my non-smart brain, just drove it off. landed on the back end and snapped a bulkhead(i hate the stock ones. i went through 4 of them last weekend). man i had some major fun.

i really need to get a video camera to show u guys what kind of insane junk we do with our rigs!!!

Apparently they use a high density piano wire for hinge pins. Supposedly to hard to cut grooves for c-clips.

I emailed them and asked if i could just buy the hinge pins to see if i could modify them for use on a different set of bulks. I received one reply saying that they won't fit normal bulks, to long or short they didn't specify.

As for buying a savage... hindsight sux.

I've dumped about $1500-$2000 in my maxx. I'm to vested in it now to give up.

I've horseshoe'd both stainless and stock hinge pins. Haven't found anything harder yet.

I'll get the lunsford titanium probably next year. My wife has thrown another $200 into it for christmas (that i don't know about). So i figured i'd see what i get and go from there.

I do know i'm getting an aluminum trans case. Racers Edge i think.
 
ya i have seen those hingepins. i got the supermaxx titanium ones and they take a beating but they havent bent or anything yet.

as for me buying a savage....... HECK YA!! i have wanted one since they have came out. now that my maxx is pretty much done considering i have over $3000(i am only 15 years old) in it now. i think that i need to get something else.

Either you mow a lot of lawns, or your parents are capable of a lot more giving than mine were.

Do you have the supermax site you bought them at? I've probably been there, but just don't know for sure.
 
well, my mom and dad are devorced, so i live with my mother. she has 1 job and doesn't make too much. my t-maxx was a birthday present 4 years ago that i payed almost all of for. my mom help me out with the gas and stuff when i first bought. since then i have put almost all of my money that i have earned, saved, had it my truck. my grandpa now buys gas for me so i dont have to worry about that. but the supermaxx stuff is all me buying it. i had saved up 2 summers work to get all of it. so now it is finally almost completed. all i need is the supermaxx chassis and it will be done.

hey supermaxx...did i read you use the stock rodends on your maxx? I'm surprised you can even make it thru a couple of minutes with them...the stock maxx rod ends have to be the weakest link on the truck...unless you never cartwheel lol.

alkyula, yup i still run the stock turnbulk ends. trust me i cart wheel alot. i have NEVER broken 1 and i have had my truck for 4 years now:dance: . (knock on wood)

Hell, i broke 3 last weekend. It was 40 degrees out. I replaced each one i broke with the beefier pro-line ones. I haven't broken a pro-line one yet. But i have broken an integy titanium turnbuckle.

You must be just extremely fortunate. At least with the turnbuckle ends.

Did you contemplate getting the savage instead of the maxx? I'm curious as to how many people straddled that fence. I know i pondered over it for a month or so before i finally chose the maxx.

What won me over was the pan type chassis plate.
 
well the past 3 times i have been bashing it has been about 35degrees outside.

no, i didnt have to contemplate becasue the only monster truck that was out was the t-maxx, u got to remember this was 4 years ago.lol

BRYAN - You come across as allot older....15 man I wish I could go back. I'm only 24 (almost 25) with an engineering degree but 15 doesn't semm long ago...enjoy it while you can bro. You crack me the phuck up dude, you have all that good stuff in your maxx but your still running the suck ass stock turnbuckles with those crappy little ends....come one now. If your not bending turnbuckles then your not driving it hard enough..lol.

If you guys wanna do a parts trade for a bunch of stock tunrbuckles and ends holla at me. Some are bent, some aren't but most have the ends intact.

olds - I couldn't say enogh good things about the Lundsford Ti 1/8th Turnbuckles. I've gotten in wrecks so nasty that the only thing not broken on the outside of the chassis but turbuckles an ends. I'm not sure but I beleive that RPM make some beffy ass ends.

One of the posters here took the words outta my mouth. "cartwheels"...hehe. That's when I lost wheel hex nuts and bent and broke turnbuckles/ends before.
