Well just got done with my Tower Order. I now have on way;

Traxxas Rustler XL-5
Duratrax Onyx 240 Charger
Venom Lipo Charger (cheapo)

Also have 2 4200 8 cell tenergy packs and PL Road rage tires.

i'm sure many of you are going to ask why the 240 charger for it's a dual battery charger. The reason being is that way as one pack gets charged another can be charging and I will always have a pack charging.

I plan on running the XL-5 until it craps out and then putting (need opinions) a Castle creations Mamba Max ESC with a VXL brushless Motor. Sound good or do you recommend other setups? It's for pure bashing.

Also, i know on Tower it says the XL-5 can only handle a 7 cell but I see Videos of XL-5's on Youtube all the time with 8 cells. Will it burn my ESC or is it just going to get hot and can I stick a Fan on it?

Thanks in advance, Looking forward for your Opinions. I'm pretty stoked about this, it's my first ever NEW RC.:D

What is this I hear about Electric break in? supposedly You break in the motor??

my sons XL5 started that way bone stock for a month and then after putting the VXL gears in the tranny and every RPM part they make it is tough and fast but I prefer the VXL esc and motor for that rig. It hauls A$$ but is also smooth. I put a mamba 5700 motor and esc it as well but that is way too much to keep grounded but it was fun none the less.

mamba max and vxl motor owns all ask alpine

actually I have used that combo on both the rustler and Slash and I wasn't impressed so I think it is all a bunch poop imo. Oh crap now I am going to get cavity searched the next time I get pulled over.....:D

I Think, that applies more to brushed motors than brushless. They used to say take it slowly at first to seat the brushes and commutator to each other and allow the bearings to seat themselves under a moderate load before you commit absolute power through it.

In regards to brushless, i was advised that to "Break a brushless motor in" means to allow the bearings to seat themselves before commiting absolute power through them by spinning the motor up to full or near full rpm to soon. DO NOT quote me on that however, it is something that i was told, rightly or wrongly, at my LHS a few weeks back. Not sure of the legitimacy of it tho.
