Hi all!

I've been pulling my hair out with a new uber-computer I put together several weeks ago for video purposes. Too many new components put together all at once + Frequent crashes = What the hell is the problem?

To make matters worse I reloaded my old machine and gave it to my daughter before I put the new one together.

I'm hoping it was bad ram. Just put two sticks of Crucial PC3200 in this morning and it's been amazingly stable. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Just starting to pick up the nitro again. I never have run the truck with the JR XS3 radio I picked up several months ago. Been gettin' that radio gear put in the last couple days.

My last post was about a stupid hat, I think. Surprise! So is this one!

I'm going to a birthday party today. Here's a party hat for the lucky girl:

Welcome back homie. I've been working on my dad's new machine. Intel PERLL w/ onboard everrything (except video), PIV 3.0, 2Gb DDR Mem, Radeon 9700 256, mucho drool, SATA. It's da bomb, too bad he doesn't use it (let alone turn it on).

[/RANT]

I'm sure we're gonna be seeing more vids from Dave soon!

Nice hate Dude.....Where can I get one?

I've used tons of Crucial memory over the years. Ya just can't beat it for the price.

I knew a frat dude that had a hat like that but all the bottles where empty.

Hi, wdavidhicks.
Nice to finally meet you. Maybe you can put to rest all the rumors that El P has been passing around in your absence.

Welcome back homie. You say uber now spill the specs. What did ya get? Glad to hear you are up and running alive and well. And to Rolex WDH is one of the few the proud and the free.

So I should ignore everything El P said about him?
I've seen hats similar to the one he's wearing, but they were always empty.
I think he should 'pass the hat' and we'll all toast to his return.

If EP didn't flip me crap I'd think something was wrong with him.

The hat was a big hit, by the way.

I have to go back to work and hear an "I told you so" from a coworker who told me I should get Crucial ram. My store didn't have Crucial or Kingston so I picked up what they had. I have been so pissed off about this new machine until yesterday. Since the Crucial ram went in it's been absolutely flawless.

This is what I got, Blazer. It's all for the effort of archiving a bunch of old beta tapes onto DVD's. (That's what I tell myself.)

New:

Lian-Li PC65 black brushed aluminum case
Enermax 465P 430W power supply
MSI K8T Neo mainboard
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ processor
Zalman CNPS7000-CU CPU fan
Crucial PC3200 DDR non-parity ram 512mb X 2
Dual Seagate 160gb SATA drives on
mainboard-supported Promise raid controller,
raid0 striped configuration (speed, no redundancy)
Pinnacle Studio AV/DV Deluxe w/capture card
(supports firewire, S-VHS and composite AV input/output)
Sony DRU-530A DVD±RW/±R (IDE1 slave)

Migrated from previous machine:

Western Digital ST380011A 80gb HDD (IDE0 primary)
Samsung SW-252F CD-R/RW (IDE1 primary)
nVidia GeForce3 Ti 200
3½" floppy

I've heard that the Pinnacle software was buggy and crash-prone. But I wasn't getting a hung or non-responsive app. The monitor would go black as the machine decided to reboot itself. I was blaming the Pinnacle until I reloaded the OS with just the bare basics and it still crashed and rebooted. I didn't start out blaming the ram because the crashes would occur with just one stick by itself and again with the other stick by itself.

30%, I think I've just become a Crucial fan too.

Error, it takes a good man to fix his dad up with a state-of-the-art current technology paperweight! I won't be able to make any nitro videos until I get a camera. I've done some playin' around with captures from VCR, DVD, TV and an old x10 camera but that's about it. I still have to load XP back on this machine again. Right now I'm on Win2k as dumping XP was a troubleshooting effort. I've already had to call Microsoft on the last XP install as it was about the fourth install and their pirate alarm went off at activation time. So I'll be calling them again. They're pretty cool at the activation hotline when you tell 'em you got hardware problems comin' outta your ears.

Booze helmet facts:

35 bottles of various liquors. (Bought 36, drank one Cuervo).
50ml per bottle = 1750 ml or 1.75 litre.
Assembled with hot glue gun while watching "Kill Bill". Uma is so hot.
Party hat extremely top heavy. Wearer is forced to maintain perfect posture. Not recommended for the inebriated.

Welcome back wdh. Nice system! How do you like that AMD64? When I built my current system I went with Corsair XMS Platinum series memory and I've been really happy with it.

So one question, is the hat empty now?

Don't know. Left the hat at Janet's. One woman drank all the vodkas. A few of us drank half the Cuervos. The hat was definitely partyable when I left at 11:00pm.

Then what's the point? No one is going to wear that unless they are fubar!

At the point of fubar, no one would touch the hat.

It's not like it was sacred or anything... I think no one wanted to soil themselves or the environment.

The system hasn't been stable enough to allow me to appreciate the power it has. Since I've removed the bad ram (Go Crucial, baby!!) it's been very nice. I still have to reload XP. This Win2k install was a troubleshooting effort.
