RC Driving Style
Well - I got a 3 month old hyper 7 PBS with a 8 port and it's driving me crazy! I tune the thing like I'm supposed to and it keeps dying when I apply the brakes when going full speed. Then, the idle gets all crazy and unreliable too.

Turns out the the pull starter was doing something to the engine; like it was loading it down or something. Anyway, I pull that thing off and begin tuning the engine. Guess what? my receiver batteries die off before I can complete the tuning (I had spent something like 4 hours trying to diagnose the problem).

Sheesh. Stupid pull starter....I'm so obsessed with getting the hyper running that I refuse to run my new mayhem anymore until the hyper is on its feet.
 
Well, I am going to give you the same advice I try to give myself: This is a hobby. It's supposed to be fun and relaxing. When it's not, walk away for a while.
 
have you adjusted the gap when it is off? apply the brakes and see if the gap shuts close.


Buncrana is giving good advise.
 
also make sure you seal the carb and backplate, hypers are notorious for air leaks.
 
What are the bolt tensions supposed to be like on the head and backplate?? I checked mine...they were kind of tight; it didn't take much effort to begin backing them out. Do they need to be really tight to achieve air-tightness?

As far as hypers leaking....is that why there seems to be lots of guys using the os 20e on their 8 ports? And where do you get those and how much?
 
you can't seal an airleak by tightening down the bolts, but you can strip the block. you need to use a small amount of O2 sensor safe RTV on the backplate and the carb.

the reason people use the 20E carb is because it tunes easier and better than the hyper carb.

yea man i have been having that problem lately also, my hyper was starting to get wierd on tuning and my pull starter is definatley bogging my motor down... I'm gonna take off my pull starter tonite and see if a get a real performance difference and i hope my tuning issue goes away...
 
an OS Carb from an RG that I ran about 1 gallon on and tried to mod it....I thought it looked so easy....LOL....yeah right.....
 
Timmy - about the pull starter, I pulled it off, too and it didn't help things; hope it works for you. Funny thing is that I pulled the pull starter off and that darned spring jumped out at me!

no emu67 ...i was just verifing if he had a carb or engine... i dont need it ...but its your thread you would have first crack at it anyway

emu, you need to fix your clutch after reading your other thread. a hanging clutch with that much run time on it will wreak havoc on your motor, it will throw out your tune, and make it run very hot.

get new bearings, shoes, and springs, then take some emry paper to the inside of your clutchbell and sand it till its clean. do not use a dremel, it will just cause more problems with the new clutch.
 
yeah the dremel (unless you're a frikin surgeon) will leave dimples in the CB...LOL...I see I'm not the only one to have tried this...
 
havent tried it, though I've witnessed the results of those that have. i just use 400grit emery paper.
