Idling

Now that I have my Stampede back in running order I have been using it on a daily basis. However I cannot get it to idle correctly. The idle just isn't enough, the engine sits, bogs down quick and dies. As I increase the idle, it sounds better but gets jumpy. Even where I have it set now, it bogs and dies here and there but if it's moving and I stop it, it will usually continue rolling (when I release the break.) Which to me is a sign of the idle being too high. Does this mean I should lean my LSN out? I have been too scared to play with it.

Even with it running rich it is still so much fun. And it really does go quick off the bat. Sometimes the throttle gets really sensitive/responsive and it loves doing doughnuts and jetting off. Other times I can't just jet off I have to allow it to rev higher before it really takes off. (I think it has to do with having all the fuel cleared out of the engine)

If there is still plenty of smoke coming from the exhaust through out the rev range & your temps aren't to high then it should be ok to lean out the LSN slightly & reduce the idle speed back a little to stop it moving, just keep a check on the engine temp. You could also loosen the slipper a little if you have it done up tight.

Yes, there is plenty of smoke (and unburned fuel) and when I'm really hard on it it's usually no higher then 210. Unless I'm being mean to it (I like doughnuts). I have never touched the slipper (clutch?), not even sure what it does. But by what you said I can assume it helps control when the vehicle starts moving from an idle?

I just got in from running the Stampede and I'm very happy with it. I had to lean quite a bit on the LSN, probably an 8th to 6th of a turn. I have to give it some throttle right after it starts and it still bogs a little but clears a lot faster. I didn't adjust the idle screw at all (too lazy to take the cover off) but some fine tuning and I should be good now.
