I just finished assembly on my SS, and I am working out the bugs involved in getting it to run prooperly.
I have run 2 tanks of fuel thru it, but it remains to be a little difficult to start.
My main problem now is, I am unsure of how to set the idling speed. I can't get the engine to run slow enough that the tires do not turn. I have tried adjusting the idle screw on the carb, and slowly stepping down the trim on the throttle, but as soon as I think I am almost there, the engine dies.
Tips?
TIM

The clutch shoes are OK- I just rechecked.

ok I'm not very adavnced wit rc i have had all electric expect for my 2 week old savage what i did is i took of the air filter so i could see the inside of the carb and ajusted it where it was almost closed and it worked for me. btu like i said uve proly already done that and I'm not that great with rc cars yet

you need to run a few more tanks threw it, its still tight you need to run it around on the road or where ever at a kinda high idlnot real high just enough to keep it running,i went like this for about 4-5 tanks and then lean it out a bit but now its so rich it needs to be a high iddle to keep running

I thought that maybe the motor was still too tight, too.
I completed the break-in as prescribed, and this morning I drove it around in front of my house for a tank, let it cool, and did it again. (1/2 throttle)
To drive it, I had to fire it up, and kinda toss it on the ground with a pinch of throttle. Also, full breaks kills it the motor.
I think after it cools down this time, I'll try to lower the idle speed again. Truck moves pretty good, even at light throttle, but it seems to bog under acceleration at take off. (I think I need to lean it out a little).

yep you might waan lean it out a bit so it stays running and adjudt your idle so when you brake it dont die

Well- I got it running again and ran 1/2 tank thru it, really had some fun.
Then I braked hard, rolled it out of the way of neighbors car, and it stalled. I brought it in the garage, and leaned it out a 1/4 turn on the LSN. Idle screw/gap is set at ~2mm. After changing the settings, I can't get the thing running again. It's damn hot outside (104), so I think maybe it's too hot. I don't have a temp gun yet, but I can barely touch the head for more than a second or so. I'll charge my rotostart batteries, and give it a shot again tomorrow.

Truck will not run without wheels turning. I think it's either gear lash, or clutch assembly. I think I may have assembled the clutch improperly, but I'm not sure.
If I understand properly, the clutch engages due to centrifugal force. So, should there be any outward pressure on the shoes when assembled properly? I had to apply light pressure to put them into the clutch bell. Is that right, or does that mean that the clutch is always engaged? I can't tell by the manual if I did it right or not...

it sounds like your clutch is dragging,I've never had to squeeze clutch shoes in to get a clutchbell on.the springs should actually pull the shoes in real tight, enough so that they should sit right against the nut/pilot shaft.you may wanna recheck it and make sure,it sounds like you may have installed the spring arm on the wrong side of the clutch shoe.when you remove the engine try spinning the clutchbell by hand,if you give it a spin it should freewheel and spin without any drag...if it stops right away, your clutch is dragging for sure.

your clutch springs may have come off, if they are installed incorrectly you will have problems,as for the 1.4 turn on the lsn it may be to much i would work in increments of 1/8

I would return all of your needles to factory settings and check your clutch assembly. Make sure it is assembled properly and the shoes are not glazed. If they are scuff with some scotch brite or lite sand it. Check your clutch bell for marks of rubbing. CLean that out. Then make sure that the transmitter is back to neutral before you change the settings again.

Yeah- I got it. I had the clutch shoes installed incorrectly, so it was always engaged. I got it now. Gotta love removing an engine, rebuilding the clutch and putting it back together in 30 mins.
Thanks for the help.
