appologise if this is a really stupid question but i am new to this, i have read that may different threads and am now confused. I was brought a truck and when i start the engine if fires up on the stand but the wheels constatnly speed round, if i press the brake the wheels stop running then the engine dies, i have adjusted the gap in the carb to around 1mm and have the hsn needle open around 3.5 turns, i havn't touch the lsn. If i put truck on the floor when running the engine dies instantly.I have tried my LHS but the only sell the fuel and glowplugs they don't deal with anything nitro. Any help would be graetly appretiated or just a point in the right direction on what to read.:depress:

Is this a new rig or at least is the engine new? Answer that and we can help from there.

Sorry yes it is a new rig i found out that the engine in it is a vertex 18 vx if this makes it any easier.

What is the vehicle? You definitly have something either dragging or your idle is too low. Also, if it's new, it needs broken in and engines have very little power for the first few hundred cc's of fuel.

Is the vehicle new or is the engine new or both? What does it do if you rev it up a bit to get the RPM's up then set it on the ground gently with the RPM's up a bit? Does it still die?

If it was a used rig, I'd suggest checking your clutch shoes/springs to make sure they are on correctly or not broken. Improper shimming of the clutch bell (too tight) will cause it to drag. Or, a bad clutch bell bearing will cause it as well.

The car is a tyrannosaurus and is is new, if i put the car on the floor once started the engine just dies, if i put up the reves using the throttle trim it goes forward but when i press the brake the engine stops. I can run the engine off the ground with the wheels spinning and it will hapily do this, i have tried to adjust the screw on the front of the carb, this seems to change the engine note but the wheels still spin. At the moment when i press the brake with the car on the stand the wheels stop moving and the engine runs for a few seconds then dies, if i let go of the brakes the wheels start going again. Any ideas ????

Sounds to me like the throttle servo linkage needs centered. Here's what you do:

1. Take the throttle horn off the throttle servo.
2. Turn the RX and TX on (but don't start the engine).
3. Set the idle set screw so the carb body has about a 1mm gap.
4. Set the trim on the TX for the throttle to zero.
5. Replace the throttle servo horn making sure that the linkage is holding the carb body against the set screw.

Give that a try and get back to us. Make sure you go through the entire engine break-in process as well, very important.

my guess is both this and the idle screw is set to low.

Thanks for the tips i will try them over the weekend and let you know how it goes, sorry i havn't replied sooner but have been busy with work.
