I want to work for Google

My sister-in-law works at the Mountain View campus and the pictures don't lie. They do have all those cool perks like three free meals a day, a huge workout facility, etc. The flip side is she works 12-14 hours a day, and most of her weekend time is spent working at home. They have to offer you all these things since you are there the majority of your waking life. Little or no time for family if you have one.

i may have missed something but what would you do at google? make sure some searches what they are looking for.

isnt google run by the stock market? it used to be a 500 a share and now its going down to like 200 i think.

Google

Google go beyond a normal "search engine"
There is a huge amount of business intelligence in all those end-user mouse clicks. Many corporates pay good money to feature in a Google search too.
Yahoo's search engine is powered by Google too as are many "search" facilities on Corporate and company web pages.
Google also offer news, Blogs, personal directories, mail and much more
On the back end of something like this there is a mountain of technology. Google's claim to fame in the beginning was that the entire search engine ran from cheap and cheerful destop PCs running a LINUX Distro and working as a cluster, using 100 MB/s Ethernet as an interconnect. Cheap distributed computing. Uptime is a must too, so the entire infrastructure needs power, maintenace, backup and disaster recovery. Downtime = financial penalties..
Does anyone ever remember Google being "down or inaccesable"?

The Scripts and Code required to make all this work is intense. Take into consideration that most of the planet's Internet Users uses Google in one way or another and you'll soon realise that there's a lot more to a "search engine" than meets the eye.

Google have evolved beyond the realms of the Internet and have had the "Google Desktop" availabe (free) for some time. This is great for those end users who need a fast, simple indexing/search system to sift thru their local documents, images, MP3s etc.. I don't use the Google desktop personally.

Google have taken some bad press lately for bowing before the opressive Chinese dictatorship and censoring Google China search results.
It's sad when you see a company grown and developed in "the land of the free" dancing to the tune of a brutal, opressive dictatorship for a few bucks when the average Chinese citizen works for a bowl of rice and still only sees what the Chinese Government want them to see on the Internet too.

well,i have to admit that working at google looks like a sweetdeal, most large fortune 100 firms offer the same perks. at Pfizer, we have a drycleaner, gym, "starbucks", reduced priced company store, employee lounges...etc. its like sweet said; they need to offer deals like this when u spend an average of 55 hours a week on site.

You guys have a nice flight department too! Ever get to ride?

Now, do you get to do all that while getting paid? Or you suppose to live there and not have a life outside?
