i think Nitro forfot to say that before you back it with the clear, put a coat of black over the silver for the cf look and then do the clear... I'm guessing he just forgot to put it in there

Where in my post does it even say anything about clear? Black does NOT look like carbon fiber, which is exactly why I use PEARL CHARCOAL over silver. If you are going to try and correct someone make sure you have your facts straight.

oh , sorry i misread pearl for some reason i thought it said clear.. haha sorry dude i really didnt notice that at all.. wow am i blind, lol

Sounds simple enough! I'll try it but in the event that i screw it up what would happen if i used paint thinner on this plastic? And could you post a few more examples of the carbon fiber look? like something else you've done? and i need some thoughts on what else to do with the Porche body. Such as colors, designs, any idea ya'll have let me know cause this will be my "shelf body" for when i clean the truck and set it on the shelf til next time i play! the body was free so i figure do somethin with it!

If you mess it up, while it is still wet, you can wipe it off with denatured alcohol. Do NOT use paint thinner on a lexan body, you will ruin the lid.

I'll dig up a few more pics for ya.

Awesome, thanks for the tip on the thinner. this is my first body project so I'm hopin it turns out good. also if i can't find the pearl charcoal what else is a suitable substitue? I'm gettin my paint from walmart so i doubt they have a speacialty color such as that, our walmart doesn't even have a plastic models section so i can't even get testers stuff around here except at the local shop. And there closed and i don't wanna wait til tomorrow.

You HAVE to use paint for polycarbonite or lexan. Pactra, Tamiya, Parma, but make sure it is the right stuff or it will all flake right off the body. You will need to get it from a hobby shop, or on line, but not walmart.

any one ever tried diff colors instead of silver and black or like the color camilion (don't know how to spell sorry) paint. i think i might try it. XJ practice on a 2 liter bottle first then u wont chance running ur good body

well so far so good pics to come, its not the purple i wanted to paint it, but the cap sometimes is a little off. and its Krylon made for all plastice it said, if it flakes or peels then ill live. after all, my first body and it was free so this is the practice. at least when i get the skyline i want and get the right paints it can only go better than it is now. Which its actually turnin out decent other than i dont like the color, and i could'nt find pearl charcoal but i found a charcoal gray and its a hammered finish that i think will turn out decent considering its my first try! ill have pics within the hour!

Good advise right there. Sometimes even bad mixed paint will still flake off. I had some Koysho that would not stick to ANYTHING! Also always remember to clean the inside of the body really well before you paint it. I use dish soap followed by DA. Let it dry and try not to touch anyof the inside surface.

OK! Done! Got her painted and stickered. I think i went a little over board on the stickers but it seems to look OK. Looks WAYYYYYY better than i thought it would turn out. and doesn't look too bad on the maxx other than i still think it would look better on a 2.5 maxx, cause the wheel baes would be shorter and the porche wheel wells would line up better. but here we go, critics go easy its my first body.....

Nice job, The Carbon Fiber looks great, Not the biggest fan of that purple but good first paint job you will only get better.

Thanks, yeah I'm not fond of this purple either, the cap was like a deep midnight purple which would have looked awesome. But after shakin, poppin cap, and sprayin, this is what i got.

It's good to see someone go the extra distance with something extra in their first paint job. The CF looks good, and your next paint job will be even better, now that you know what to expect.

That looks pretty good.

Nice job!

wow that cf look looks really good and for your first time its really good but i can't wait to do my first body aswell.

Looks pretty good for a first time painter! Too bad car bodies look hideous on Mt's. Wheel wells don't line up, huge gap between the chassis and body and especially the purple! Enough of my nit-picking. Painting a body for the first time can be a daunting task. Fine job!
