Hi everyone,

The MT2 is finally broken in but now I have another problem. My 11 year old Futaba pistol finally went death. The transmitter turns on, the switch works (servo's tick and fail-safe starts) but the receiver seems DEAD.
One weird thing yesterday I switched it on, switched transmitter on and servo's went crazy, started moving like nuts without me even touching anything.
Now today I opened the whole thing to check for water/corrosion whatever... nothing. It all 'looks' normal, but well if I do something on the transmitter, **** happens :bored:

I think I'll have to buy a new one :(

Anyone has ideas? Needs to be 2 channel, 27 Mhz and for Belgium, frequencies are similar to the UK... I've checked tower but they got so much to offer that I have no clue what to choose.
Money is not an issue altho I don't want to spend a fortune on it, it's a hobby, not my life :)

Thanks for your input!

Dom

I would take the batt pack, the servos, and the receiver out and bench test them. You could have a feedback loop through the chassis or a short. If it works on the bench, then the equipment is ok, and you have something on the chassis either causing a short or an errant signal. Also, borrow a buddies Rx and pop it in your rig. If the problem goes away, then it is just your Rx.

Yep did that, put everything out of the tray and the problem remains :(

Power seems to be ok, servo's get power, switch works, fail-safe works, but no action on the receiver part. I can't test with one of my mates coz he's are even older.

My receiver (obviously completely dead) is a FP-R102JE thing, Futaba, and... erm old

I even hooked battery box straight to the receiver and the servo's get power, but no action.

Many use the Airtronics MX-3, you could go higher end like a JR XS3 Pro but it really isn't needed at 250$. The MX-3 is around 90-100$.

yup the MX-3 with 2 servos i got mine a nice deal on tower for $110 and its infe. it takes some reading to learn what all the little tabs(on the screen) but you get used to it.

And for about 160-175 you can get the MX3-S with two servos. This is the synth version of the MX-3. Nice not having to worry about crystals and you can pick your channel without turning on the Tx.

Hi everyone...

I'm a bit puzzled with this crystal PCM/FM synth thing... Erm, what is it? :D

The following frequencies are allowed:

26,995 MHz / 27,045 MHz / 27,095 MHz / 27,145 MHz /27,195 MHz.
72,025 MHz / 72,050 MHz / 72,075 MHz / 72,100 MHz /72,125MHz / 72,150MHz / 72,175 MHz / 72,200 MHz / 72,225 MHz /72,250 MHz.

and a big 40 Mhz range but I can't buy that outside Belgium so that ain't an option :)

How does the FM thing work? Is it this one:

Problem is that all my connectors are Futaba so that's pretty bad. I already got two servo's HiTec with J connectors (Futaba) so I don't really need the servo's etc. And all this airtronics stuff has got other types of connectors :(

Maybe this is an option?

... This frequency thing seems rather complicated :)

Hi SpyHunter... what freq is it, can you pm me some pics? I live in Belgium tho :)

Before you start looking for a new radio or receiver, you may want to try a different set of crystals to make sure they aren't the problem.

If you only need a receiver then this is the one you will need for 27MHz Futaba--> http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXALL0&P=0

Also the 72MHz channels are mainly used for aircraft and not for ground radios. You may want to do more digging to find out if you can use 75MHz FM Ground radios, if you plan to get a new system. If you can use 75MHz, get the synthisized FM system from JR and you wont have to worry about what crystals to buy because it covers all channels from 61 to 90 w/o the need for crystals.

Ok, now this is getting scary :(
I came home yesterday, switched on the stuff and.... it worked?!?

I have no clue why, but I like it... What I dno't like tho is that I don't know why it failed...
In Belgium for air, we use 35 Mhz frequency... don't ask my why, but they like things the opposite way here :(

Anyway, driving time tomorrow :D

Sounds like bad crystals or maybe a cold solder joint on the RX circuit board. The only other thing I could think of would be a bad, loose or dirty connector or bad wires (skinned insulation or broken under the insulation). Any of these can cause an intermitten problem.

Hm thanks Pinblaster I'll keep looking into it... if it keeps failing it'll be recycled :)

Izigoth:

A synth Tx/Rx set uses no crystals at all. Very reliable. Mine is 75mhz.

Good to hear the gremlins left your rig, for now.
