Need some help with ideas on pursuing a winter build project. Problem is, can't afford to buy a new kit and assemble it. I'd very much like to build a truggy, but again, fundage is not there. What I've been milling over is taking something I have and building a custom (or customized) rig.

I have a Kyosho USA-1 Nitro that I'm thinking may be a good platform to start with. Kyosho actually claims it to be the first "truggy" since it does have a center diff., but I know that's not what makes a truggy a truggy.

I did a complete teardown and rebuild about a year ago, ran it maybe once and it's sat since. I have many spare parts for it and can still find rollers on eBay if need be, but I'd like to build something that is fun to drive and possible even enter it in a race or two.

I have an Ofna .21 8-port I can put in it, but would need some advice and assistance fashioning motor mounts.

I'll post pictures up this evening "as is" but really would appreciate any ideas or suggestions on what I can do with this thing. Sky's the limit!

I just need something to tinker with this winter or I'll go insane...that I know!

Here are some pictures as she sits now:

MW. Do you have a Revo?
I saw a killer brushless conversion in RCCA or Xrc this months issue.
Cost was just under $2700.00 if you have the truck, and $3200.00 if you have to get the truck.
The nerve of them tempting me like that.

Hey MW....

Well I don't know much obout the Nitro USA-1 except I did want one very badly when they came out. I am not much of a fabricator so I can't help there.....

But... you said that if you came across a TMaxx cheap.... maybe ebay? I am sure there are some TMaxx 2.5 rollers out there and you can mod the maxx for a .21 mill. With some RPM arms and some 40 series wheels/tires believe it or not the Maxx handles well enough to race with. It doesn't handle as well as a truggy, but I run that setup on mine and it handles well enough to compete anyway. I raced it until I got the CRT. Parts are easy to find and find cheap. I don't know it is just a thought. Take care my friend.

Ah, not a bad idea at all, Tom! May have to cruise eBay for a roller on the cheap. It'd give me a chance to use my powder coating gun again, too!

I think it would be a cool project anyway. There is alot of promise with a Tmaxx with so many hop up parts there anyway. I figured I would throw it out there any way. I know I really enjoyed hoping mine up. Take care my friend.

LOL....I know what you'll be tinkering with this winter when it's cold and dark outside.....

I've got an e-rusty and an e- evader st if you want something to race. indoor stadium truck.

Dude, seriously... you need to just type that out. I can't speak for everybody but I can't stand trying to read that kind of garbage.

as far as quoting.. just click the "reply/quote" button under the post you want to quote. it's as easy as that.

First, no, I'm not saying it is not fun to drive. I was merely stating that I was seeking ideas that may incorporate elements of the USA-1 to make a truggy. Maybe using the statement, "fun to drive" was the wrong way to go. Then again, you're the first person to ever think that by saying that, it wasn't fun to drive to begin with. My wife tends to jump to conclusions, but you make her look like a rookie!

Second, as Lessen mentioned, leave the I'm slang for chat forums and your mobile phone. It doesn't take that much longer to type the entire word out and, just in case you're unaware to it, once you get out into the world, that I'm lingo doesn't play out very well.

As I mentioned in the thread you started about your Uncle's USA-1, it's a wonderful truck and you'll learn a great deal about the hobby by TAKING YOUR TIME with the build. It's strong, durable and pretty fast but again, as I stated, the only place you can find parts is via eBay. Like any RC, it is not indestructible, so keep that in mind when you're driving it.

well, I'm sorry about the I'm slang, its a bad habit and i actually have been trying to stop it believe it or not, and sorry for jumping to conclusions...i can be a little slow sometimes, and i can be careful.

where did lessen mention that?

For a small budget maybe go with 1/18th. They're cheap and they're lots of parts for the 18t/b/r as well as the miniT.:seeing_stars:
