Well I am going to get the MGT this x-mas or new year but I keep hearing the some ol same ol. GET a SAVAGE or GET A TMAXX! whats everyones take on the new MGT? I want to make sure there is nothing that I am leaving out before shelling out the benjamins. What are the pros and cons? I know that the Savage has the roto start and the tmaxx has the easy start. I am not worried that I won't have that. I am comfortable without it. Other people are telling me that the MGT isn't 1/8 scale; if it isn't then what the hell is it? what type of radio does it come with? Hopefully not some cheesy one. Which truck is faster?what is the biggest mill I could put on there for some real power? LMK !! I really want to know this before I get this. Thanks peoples

MGT is a 1/8 scale, is about 1 inch longer and wider than the Savage and Maxx, has 2 speed tranny with reverse, dual start system (shaft start and pull start) powered by a Thunder Tiger .21 engine, my LHS sold 3 of them in the same day, 1 guy has had a twisted dog bone and busted shock tower (only because his brother hit him head on with his MGT) not sure what kind of radio it comes with but haven't heard of any complaints from any of those guys, the shocks have fake piggy backs, so no real function there, just for show.......it looks to be a solid built truck, in fact I have considered buying one myself, but have to wait till after the holidays.........I know RC Car Action mag gave it a good review in the December issue. I'm not sure of it's actual top speed, but I think it is claiming the same as the maxx and savage in the 40+ mph range, and I am not sure as to how big you can go with the engine since the MGT has a sideways mounted engine unlike maxx and savages, I suppose you can probably go with a bigger mill like a picco or wasp 26, but I'd check with your LHS on details on that issue, sorry if this wasn't much help, just thought I'd share what I have heard and read about the MGT.

well i am suppose to buy a savage first week of january but if they sell them all during holidays i will get the mgt....So far the fastest one i saw in magzines was clocked at 35 mph the slowest was clocked at 32 MPH......

The mgt imo comes packed with higher quality parts than the savage....CVA's all around, and u have the dual start option which is a big plus, one rigid chassis......

one of my online buddys bought one and he is very impress with it..A few days ago he took the diffs apart to lube them and he sent me pictures of how the inside of the diffs were made and i was impress....The monster GT diffs comes with 4 spider gears likea in 1/8 scale buggy diff.......The savage diffs only comes with 2 spider gears and it is left to the buyer to upgrade to 4 spider gears.....

So if my LHS sells there 3 savages that they have in stock before first week of january then i will buy the mgt cause they have lots in stock and right now the savage is selling alot.....

OK my brother got one today and this thing looks awesome!! I am disappointed in the lame fake ass piggyback reservoirs. They do look real but when I was told they are just for looks I thought why the hell would AE put them on? Was there a real purpose or was it a stupid way to spend their dollars to deceive the consumer?! Another thing thatI am not too sure on is the per formance on the actual ride BUT I will know next week!!! I will keep you guys posted. I will try to get some cool vids to post but I am goint to need some help with that. I know there will be no problem with that here. I m getting mine for 380 bucks NEW!!! DAMN WHO WOULD PASS THAT UP? Its about the same price for a tmaxx or savage at the LHS!! Whereas the MGT is going for 490 right now at my LHS.

Oh yeah the radio the kit comes with isn't all that bad. It is better than the HPI rides have come with. or even the XTM Mammoths. Those are the cheesiest ones I have seen that hve been used for RTR packages.

Now the Engine I have heard from ACTUAL owners that it is very competitive with the TMAXX and Savage mills. Not quite sure on that yet but I doo hope it will be fun. I will let you guys know!!

I got mine....

My new MGT showed up last night..... I pulled the fake piggy backs off it, and installed a new set of HB threaded aluminum shocks, using the stock MGT shock spring retainers, and stock springs

I really like the way the shocks are attatched to the shock towers.... The upper shock mounts have screws that go through the shock power, that slide all the way through.... no need to wear yourself out threading them all the way through, and to change shock oils, you don't have to remove the engine or fuel tank like on the T Maxx.

The lower shock mounts are captured....( nice. )

The battery/reciever/servo tray is really nice..... A total of 6 screws, and the entire radio system comes out in one piece for safe easy cleaning of the chassis!!! That ROCKS!

The INLINE PRIMER BULB ROCKS!

I like how the engine sets in the chassis, and the factory drill start/pull start ROCKS!

The Pivoting front body mount, and the single quick release rear body mount system allows instant easy access to ALL 3 Carb adjustments.... That also ROCKS!

Spur Gear replacements, and slipper clutch adjustments are made easiely by removing the BODY... Thats IT.... Unlike the T MAXX where you have to take the whole truck apart.....

The exhaust system is aimed right at the ground, and the truck doesn't get all oiled down underneath and down the side like a T MAXX!!!

Factory METAL GEAR STEERING SERVO???? 2055 what??? (Junk)

Reverse that actually WORKS? T MAXX WHAT?

Aluminum A Arm mounts, instead of plastic bulk heads that rip out and require the entire front end to be dismantled for replacement??? SWEET!

All Metal CVD drive and axle shafts???? out of the box?

All metal gears in the trans except for low and high gear on the 2 speed????

Folks, I ran my highly modifeid 2.5 race truck against a DEAD STOCK MGT the other day, and the MGT made the T Maxx look like a cheap toy from RADIO SHACK. The GT hung right with my 2.5 truck off roading, and after we bashed it all day, we found the trim level on the radio wasn't allowing WOT on the MGT!!!

You can buy a new T Maxx, and spend $500 on it, and still NOT HAVE 1/2 the truck you get out of the box with the new MGT!

All this from a DIE HARD T MAXX GUY who has HAD OVER 20 T MAXX TRUCKS. No more T Maxxes for me folks... I have seen the light.:OMG:

Thats right ..Hail to the GT BABY!!!!

I finally got to drive my GT today and here is the report..

After driving the TMAXX 2.5 and then the Monster GT I could see where each could improve and where each screams HELL YEAH!!!

First of all the break i n procedure of the GT is not what the books says. I went ahead ignored the 6 1/2 turns out for the LSN cuz that is where I was screwed. It seemed to me that itreally struggled to stay hot and on but as soon as turned the LSN in a couple turns it started to work fine. I still left it a bit rich as I was still breaking her in.

I did notice that the break setting SUCKS ASS as it gives no power to the driver to actuall stop much the less SLOW DOWN. I am still trying to figure this one out so anyone with any help there please speak up.

Now the durabilty of this truck is pretty robust as I flipped her over a few times on her lid to avoid hitting things. LOL Each time I flipped her over and off we were again. I do like the feature on the tank that prevents the car from shutting down since it has two pumps . That was pretty cool. My Tmaxx shut down after a few seconds. The TMAXX though has bitchen brakes. Almost stops on a dime if need be!.

I also have yet to break anything so far but I am waiting;just not looking forward to shelling out cash to replace. Now the speed of the Thunder Tiger 21 is still waiting to be awakened as I want to run her a rich for two more tanks. Then I will start tuning her for power and speed.

The Suspension set up is a little weak for the weight of the truck but its nothing that a few more pre loads won't fix. I am not ready to fork over some bucks for some piggybacks or some big bores or even 1/8 buggy shocks. I want to really get to know her well enough to make a sensible decision.

Now what about the reverse you ask? WELL it works every damn time I engage it! THe TMAXX I am still having problems. I want to keep reverse on both since it is so convenient to just shift her into reverse to back out of a dead end. I give that a lot of points. The TMAXX seems to get stuck in reverse and the only way it gets out of it is to flip her over in reverse. Again if anyone can help me there Please SPEAK UP!!!

I do like the fact there are CVDS all around!! Traxxas what were you thinking?

The transmitter isn't as bad as everyone thinks. Yeah it doesn't compare to the norm like a M-8 or a 3d Lynx or a XS3but at least it wasn't an HPI rtr transmitter like on the RTR 3. That model sucked ass. Ugly and cheesy. The Steering definitley needs to be upgraded but still worked for me....for now. I think the 5645MG will be the next candidate to work the steering.

That is my meager report so far! I am very pleased with the overall performance of my GT. It is definitly Bigger Faster and Tougher ...at least IMO. I will try and get some vids going or at least pics. MY local track was muddy as hell and was under maintenance still so I was @$$ed out.

So watch out as the aftermarket jumps on this truck it will be a strong contender !!!
