Ok I just ran my second tank through, was going to run a few more but my poor glow start died so it's recharging.

Anyways, I really only have one complaint about the engine when used with the savage. The pull start is tucked pretty far down, between the fuel tank and the rear shock tower. It's a real pain tryin to get my fingers in there to be able to pull start it. Once I get the handle in my hand it usually starts up in the first pull.

Any doing anything special to fix this?

You could put a piece of fuel tubing on the pull start string..that would help extend it a little. Only downside is that you'll have less pull.

I think this is probably your best solution, unless someone has one that is better.....and WoodiE has been dealing with "having less to pull" for years, so he is probably used to that by now.:lick:

damn---burned. if it is starting on the first or second pull, though, the slight redcution of travel shouldnt matter much, right? is there anyway to attach a loop of wire or something similar to the t-hadle on the pull starter, then u could use that to help get the cord out of the crevice its in.

also, if the string isn't long enough, you can go and try to find a stronger thinner string...i'm not suggesting this, but I know fishing line some of the stronger stuff is actually thinner than the less strong stuff

one rule to remember with pullstarts, you don't have to use the stock string...be creative..woowoo

The fuel tubing idea sounds like a great idea. I think I'll give that a try. I know the recoil spring in these pull starts has proven itself to be a problem all in it's own, but has anyone tried upgrading their cable with this? Hyper 21 Pullstart Cord Not a bad price for an unbreakable cable!

i did the fuel tube trick.. MAKE sure of 1 thing though.. the cross knot in the handle must be TIGHT.. else when u pull you get to watch the handle come off in your hand, and the string go into to pull start housing..

I used a three and a half inch piece of fuel tubing on mine. This brings the handle of the pull start outside the body and pretty much keeps it there. I also took some tubing, sliced down the length and used CA glue to glue it around the cut out on the body where the engine head sticks out. This keeps that sharp edge from rubbing the pull start string and causing it to wear prematurely.

The length of pull start you lose for this mod doesn't really cause a problem. You should only be pulling about 9-10 inches at a stroke anyways. Anything longer and you strain the spring...leading to broken pull start.

For you homos out there who like to read inuendo into everything, have fun with those two paragraphs...I'm sure you'll find plenty to play with.

I'm pretty sure that last comment was for me, did you mean homo sapien? or homo sexual? ahhh doesn't matter.

I'll leave the inuendo alone...too easy. I'll let the little kids make up their own jokes.

LOL...oh come now...you're going to back down now....I'm sure I gave you more than enough ammo.

Getting the string outta the pull start housing is frustrating. The damn spring comes out and its a pina in the @$$ to get back in.

i was lucky.. i pulled the tank, head off the engine, and used a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the 1/32 of string still hanging out the hole...
