Hiya.. I need to remove the clutch from my hyper 21 engine!!

I managed to destroy the turbo fan in the engine, leaving little bits of metal everywhere that I need to remove before rebuilding the engine!

I have removed the piston and stuff but need to remove the crank shaft.

Am I right in thinking that the crank is held in by the fly wheel and clutch? And how do you remove them??? I have tried to turn and heat but I don’t wanna try to hard and destroy engine :D

Thanks for looking Sound User

First remove the clutch bell buy either popping off the e-clip, or removing the screw from the end of the crankshaft. Hold the flywheel with a pair of plyers wrapped in electrical tape on the jaws to remove the screw if it has one. The clutch bell will now come right off.

The easiest way to remove the the flywheel is with a flywheel remover. If you don't have one or don't want to buy one, you can gently tap the back side of the flywheel with a hard rubber headed hammer. The flywheel is tapered at it's center and there is a brass tapered collar on the crankshaft that it has been cinched down on. You only need to break it free. Once you get it free it will slide right off and you can then slide off the tapered collar. You don't have to remove the clutch shoes from the flywheel.

That's it.

This is what I'm looking at
is the clutch bell the thing in the middle of the three arms??
I'm new at this :D thanks

Looks like you already have the CB off, in front of the silver flywheel is the clutch shoes, they are covered by the CB. The CB is round and has teeth on it, like a gear, from that pic, it looks as though it's already off. Now all you need to do is get the flywheel off like robmob explained.

Yes, anytime you replace the sleeve and piston it's like starting with a brand new engine. Not sure what you're planning on replacing while you have it torn down, but a lot of people suggest replacing the connecting rod as well. Let us know how it goes and good luck with the rebuild.

The engine is pretty new.. not sure why the turbo broke down, but it did and locked the engine with broken metal. When the engine was taken out and the blockage removed the movment of the engine was smooth and felt normal..

The sleeve and piston dont have a scrach on um and fit together very tightly as does the sleeve in the block.

i wasn't planning on replacing anything except the broken turbo fan..

is this okay?? and can you tell if a piston is damaged by eye or feel??

Found this picture of my engine on the net...

is that screw thread where the crank shaft goes??

What are you referring to as the "turbo fan"?

The internal OWB has 3 fan blades on it, STS engines have these as well. It is supposed to help fuel atomization.

This is the turbo fan...

The shaft broke out and left bits of metal inside the engine

Then no, you won't have to break in the motor again. I thought when you said rebuild you meant replacing the piston and sleeve. That is just a fancy OWB and replacing them is common. Good luck!

Got it.

Remove the head and plug button and drop the piston down. If you see scoring on the sleeve, then you might as well replace the piston and sleeve.

there is a nut in the center of those clutch shoes. you have to remove that before the flywheel will come off.

EDIT: the clutch bell is the part you have already removed. it is the part that covers all that and has the gear on the end. what you see is the clutch shoes (black parts "arms") and the flywheel (silver). watch out for the springs that hold they shoes. you shouldnt have to remove them, but getting the nut off is easyer without the shoes in the way.
