You must be looking for trouble when asking this question. It is a matter of personal opinion, each brand has its good and its bad.

if you want a truck you can beat up real good right out of the box and not do alot of upgrading to make it sturdy, buy a savage.
if you want a truck thats going to break coming out of the box and a truck that you will have to upgrade considerably to be able to take a beating, buy a traxxas
have had good luck with both customer services. A+ to both
can't really compare a revo to an XL. they are 2 totally different beasts. XL and Tmaxx maybe, but not XL and revo

This kind of question always been ask, and we've always get same answers. savage is tough out of the box, while revo takes a lot $ to be tough but handling is better. And the bottom line is we have our own opinion and must havee different choice in our own different purpose.

Or you get people like me... Both are about the same out of the box regarding toughness. The revo handles better and burns less fuel. The savage sits higher and has more low end torque.

If your going to be on dirt/concrete most of the time, the revo is pretty decent.

If your going to be on sand, grass most of the time, the savage would be better due to the torque of a bb.

If you want to do silly high jumping, savage wins.

Both HPI/Traxxas have excellent parts support and endless aftermarket support.

Yup I just bought my first HPI this year and I would say out of the box the Traxxas is a better RTR and ready to run. Very little had to be done on the 5 Traxxas I have owned. and can run striaght out of the box. The HPI Trophy Truggy 4.6 required about an hour to fix the suspension before I could run it. Now I am not going to say this for all HPI trucks or truggies but my suspension required lot of work before I could use it for engine break in. This is only my experience. Now that I have it setup and broke in the engne I like it and look forward to many years of play time now

I own the XL and a first gen tmaxx that's been upgraded to 2.5 driveline and an OS .18. Both are great trucks but for me the xl is the big block truck and the tmaxx is the small block truck. I was at a cross roads when I wanted to upgrade my tmaxx. Either spend 300 plus to upgrade the tmaxx or just buy a big block truck instead. I ended up doing both in the long run. I think both trucks are very good and also have their strong points and weak points. The tmaxx is designed out of the box to be a small block truck and the savage is designed to be a big block truck out of the box.
