HPI Super Nitro RS4 2 speed upgrade

Hey community,

I was gifted this amazing car, I know it is very old/vintage RC car, but it's practically new since was only ran a couple of times, not even a quart of Nitro has ran through the engine, and I would like to use it to intro myself to the hobby.

I see there were a couple of upgrades to the car and the one I'm interested is on the 2 speed upgrade since I'm changing the .15fe for the Nitro Star T3.0 since it's basically a direct fit.

I've tried searching everywhere for the 2 speed kit (part number #A912) but not able to find it.

Is there any other pieces I can put together to build upgrade the car?

Maybe keep this one stock, since you say its like brand new, and rather get yourself an RS4 3, which is shaft driven and 2 speed.

I found this listing on aliexpress, it's a little pricey but the vendor looks reputable.

The redcat 40/37T might work - BS903-103, looks like an almost exact match. Ebay link

You might also be able to drop in the transmission from an HSP flying fish, it's nearly identical - the whole car was cloned off the RS4, most notable difference is the motor turned to face forward. You'll have to put together the right clutch bell for it, with a difference of 5 teeth. You could do 17/22 I believe, if that transmission fits. Another aliexpress link.

I just bought titanium rs4 parts from them a week ago.

Nitro rs4 parts are hard to get. Super is more rare. You probably see where this is going. You gave any pics of it? I always wanted a super rs4.

I tried looking for an RS4 3, but couldn't find anything on ebay, just found 1 but it was quite pricey which with I could get a new Kyosho or mtxt6

Unfortunately i got a little too late on this one, the offer has already expired it was also on a very good price. Yeah the super rs4 is a good piece of hardware, here are a couple of pics I took

The part I linked is for a shaft. Ill try to see the parts for the belt and see what can be used on each.

That seller I linked, pm him and tell him you have a belt rs4 and am looking for a 2 speed. Hes one of my plugs so to speak. I think he finds sweet rides and parts them.

I think I made a mistake, user Chubaka is right- all the links I posted are for shaft-driven vehicles, #A912 was for the RS4 MT series - I don't know that any of them would be usable in a belt-drive vehicle, at the very least it wouldn't be drop in. If the pics you posted are of the car you're modding, you'll need a different transmission to upgrade it entirely.

To answer your question though, I have experience with the HSP one and can say that although it'll break eventually, (rather, it counts on a single 2mm metal pin to catch the shift point that eventually wears through), it's super simple to understand and repair, and even the individual components are available for a couple bucks a part.

Yeah the RS4 2, RS4 3 and RS4-MT are all shaft drive
