I am very new to this hobby (2 days), and after extensive research believe that for my use (back yard, park - general fun) my entry into R/C Nitro would be with the HPI Super Nitro Rally RS4. (I'm a huge fan of the WRC)

Do any of you have experience with this car, and am I going down the right path?

Your comments would be gratefully appreciated.

Liam.

Depending on the ride height. I've watch the guys at the track run rally cars and they spend a lot of time scraping off the ground. Maybe just go with a bigger stadium truck and put a rally car body on it.

I have pretty much 1 of every track class and have no interest in the rally cars.

I'm just giving you my opinion - others will vary.

Do you plan on running on very bumpy surfaces and hitting Massive Jumps? If so: Go for the ST! A good AE or TL would Suit you fine! If your idea of offroading is very mild: as in dirt and grass and hills, Go for the Super Nitro Rally. HPI makes very realistic bodies that cover their quality kits. First upgrade to get would be an O.S. engine.

Thank you both for your prompt replies.

I am attracted to the HPI for realism of the Rally cars. I don't really think I would expect the car to do massive jumps and the like, as I want to recreate a realistic run. If I decide that Track racing is for me, I guess I would purchase an alternate car specifically for that purpose.

However, I want to run in open parks and dirt, so I imagine the ride height is important, and the promo for this model ensures this capability.

Could you possible expand on the TL AE an ST. I guess the ST is the Tower Hobbies off road car. Is AE the engine??

Can you get a realistic body to put on off road cars (wheels under the hubs not out the side)?

Thanks again for your input.

you can easily convert the HPI super rally to a RS4 nitro MT if you feel the need...will run you around 50 for new dog bones suspension arms and wheels.

TL=Team losi AE=Team Associeated (both manufacutrers) ST=Stadium Truck. For you,,,i reccommend the Super Nitro Rally. You like Realism, gonna drive in the parking lots and dirt. Very good choice. I'm not sure on what you mean by the Wheels and Hub Question. There are many sites that you can buy a HPI Super Nitro Rally . I hope that answered your question!
