Hi guys. i'm new to rc. I own a buggy & getting ready to purchase a savage x 4.6. Looking for some input on what i need to buy to get started with it (upgrades can wait for a gallon or so). Also input on common issues & how to correct. I hear there are diff issues so maybe good explanation &/or video on shimming / checking diffs? Thanks in advance for any help.

I've not owned one and dont do nitro but Id say plenty of glow plugs and spur gears until you get the mesh perfect.

There should be extra shims in a small bag in the box. Pull the diff covers off and check the play. When I got mine, the front diff was shimmed correctly, the rear not so much. Just make sure the mesh is tight and they are good to go. Other than than, do a complete check over to make sure everything is tight. I had no issues with mine other than the rear diff.

Youlls need

Fuel

glow plug igniter charger

extra spur gear just because its always good to have one

after run oil ( i prefer 3n1 oil because its a great oil for nitro engines and it really is good
for anything mechanical)

air filter oil

always good to have tool set ( not something you HAVE to have but always nice to have

quality hobby tools)

battery hump pack is essential in my opinion. AA's can be expensive buying them on occasion.

For me, the truck came with the motor mount, back plate, and some other parts that were already thread locked so i think 2011 savages are taken care of in that issue savages have had in the past.

Also, i personally have not had to shim my diff's I've driven over 1 and a half gallons of fuel with no gear issues what so ever. But its good to check.

video i did on my opinions on the savage.

Hi,

I owned one! and you only need nitro!!! 25% to run it out of the box.

I recommend you get the receiver battery pack (2) and a pro glow igniter (rechargeable) both HPI.

You will bead fuel. It will say in the directions the range in nitrous percent

You will need a glow plug ignited. Rechargeable or c battery powered

You will need twelve AA battery's for remote and car

And you will need screw drivers and Allen keys for tuning your truck

Already comes with that just doesn't come with a charger for the igniter

You will need twelve AA battery's for remote and car

Comes with HPI AA's for receiver and radio

And you will need screw drivers and Allen keys for tuning your truck

Comes with allen wrenches already and other tools to maintain the truck.

i have a savage 4.6 and it runs best with O.S. no.8 glow plugs in any weather.
my car loves 20% nirto. broke it in with 25% and never ran right. then i changed to 20% and that fixed the problem
