Hi All,

I'm looking for some help with a strange problem I have with my Savage 25. When I place the savage on the ground and try to push it along the floor the wheels appear to lock up and it refuses to go anywhere.

If I turn it over and rotate the wheels by hand I can only get 3 to go in the same direction at any one time. Doesn't matter which 3 I choose, the one I'm not spinning will always go in the opposite direction. If I try to force the 4th wheel to spin in the correct direction, it refuses to move.

Here's what I do know. My brake is fine and not locking up. The tranmission appears to be moving freely as does the flywheel and spur gear. I have the spider diff mod at both ends but these appear to be ok as well as I have checked both diffs for broken gears etc. I have not yet opened up the tranmission casing mainly because this is a nightmare.

I may have to resort to a complete rebuild from scratch unless you guys can help me out with this one.

Many thanks in advance,

Deano.

my guess is that you have one of your diffs in backwards. Try spinning your flywheel witth the truck off the ground and see what the wheels do. If one set spins in the opposite direction one is backwards.

that was my next suggestion... Dean welcome to RCNT

Yes when spinning the flywheel the front and rear wheels spin in opposite directions. Is it possible to tell which one is wrong?

Thanks for the welcome. :)

I may be wrong, I don't own a savage, but in all my other rides the flywheel spins counterclockwise. So if you spin the fw counterclockwise the one that spins forward is going the correct way.

That did the trick. Thanks guys, just had her running for the first time since the winter.

Thanks for all your help!

Deano.

what do u mean when you say the diff is backwards

do u mean the left is on the right and the opposite

Not really backwards, just flipped over like you said.

I did that the first time I tore apart my t-maxx a few years back, but I put both diffs in backwards. Imagine my surprise when I was warming it up, goosed the throttle, and the maxx ran right up my leg in reverse!

i don't think its possible to put it in backwards on a savage because if you do there is no clearance for the gear

ignore coloured lines on pic

on some of the aftermarket diff cases you can put it in backwards, (not that i ever did that and had my truck rolling backwards without the reverse mod)

lol
do you know which companies make these?
what are they made of? (plastic aluminium)
Where you can get them from?
Cost?

they may be useful in a 6x6 project i'm going to try

Just to clarify, yes I have aftermarket GPM diff cases front and rear. They allow you to put the diff assembly gear in either way unlike the stock HPI ones.
