hi i just got my savage 4.6 big block engine and it cut out when brakeing so i took it to a shop to get set up, when i drive it now i get about 2mins running time then the temp lights all flash and when i throttle it doesn't respond so i turn it off and wait 5 mins then go again and same thing. is this overheating and cutting out? I'm new to nitro trucks aswell so dont know to much about it would apriciate any help thanks

From the way it sounds you need to richen up your fuel mixture that should cool the temp down and fix your throttle response.

Hi,
What is the temperature, and how are you reading it?
I had a similar problem with my Savage X 4.6.
But it turned out that the temp alarm settings on my DX3s was set too low.
I'm not sure but yeah, like mentioned, your likely running it too lean.
Is your nitro already broke in? Are you running it with the shell on?
You may have to cut out part of your front windshield to allow some air circulation around the engine and obviously its air filter.
Tough to give advice when you're not there to see,.

As stated above sounds like your running way to lean. And did u break it in as per manual?
Should not have to cut windshield on a stock veh. Properly tuned they should run within temps

Hi zrock,
My hpi 106364 Savage X 4.6 Big Block with stock body runs quite a lot hotter with shell on. My manual suggests not running past 250* F, which could be reached well before I run through a full tank of fuel, while she's dressed.

But with the shell removed, I can run all day...
I'll just refill when near empty, while running...
My temp in check on my DX3s.
I don't want to cut my windscreen, so I'm looking at a nice
El Camino shell to customize, crazy paint scheme and to decal the crap out of.

I cut my body on my XL and it made a huge difference in temps. From 260+ to now around 240 constantly. You're definitly lean somewhere and may need to readjust your carb back to factory after the engine has been warmed up.

I bought it 2nd hand then payed a shop £40 to set it all up as brakes etc Wernt working so if it m&s lean then the shop must have set it up wrong? I'm new to these trucks so don't know to much about them that's why I payed a shop to set it up. Appreciate the help tho thanks

Hi babybrandish,
Might I then suggest for you to watch several, or a few, vids on youtube concerning nitro breakin and set up...?
The hpi vids are some of the very best, and they show you exactly what to do, as far as leaning out and richening your fuel rate,,,.best wishes.
Please do Post back your progress, thanks man!

Yer that's why I took it to a shop mate to get set up properly but gather they haven't, I don't have a windshield on mine it's already cut out, there's a digital gauge on side with different temps upto 100oC and they all flash when hot then it's un responsive, also last time I took it out I lost rear wheel drive and looked up but was just the small pin underneath and had a spare in box so replaced it and took it out today and same thing again so must have come out again is this a common fault? Can any1 tell me where I can get a replacement please? Thanks for all the feedback guys

If a shop set it up and now it's overheating take it back and get them to adjust it and make sure you take it for a run before u leave. They should hopefully do it for free.
