It doesn't look underpowered to me...

Interesting how we are watching the same video and get a completely opposite opinion. I think it does look underpowered. Actually, I should say it sounds underpowered. Revs without the go. I jus don't think it's got enough torque to impress any 1/5 scale enthusiast.

However, it would make a great project for somebody who wants a nice 1/5 scale 4WD CORR truck. Pull that nitro and drop in a fuelie somehow.

i think it will be a clutch eater. I believe HPI does a great job of editing their videos to make their trucks appear to be just a little better than what they actually are. The fact that this video shows the truck to be mildly powered at best is a clear indication that it won't meet end user expectations.

100% agreed. That video includes A LOT of close ups... which makes the car seem to accelerate better because you see less of a background to judge by.

Does it mention what it weighs anywhere, it shouldn't be much heavier then the savage XL should it? With the proper nitro engine I think it would be a cool truck. CORR is what I was thinking all the way also!! That would be nice! Can't wait to see one should be a fun truck.

Well, to be honest, I don't see that much more weight than a stock savage. They have it listed at 7kg (15.43lbs).

My HB 1" chassis extended savage weighs 14.3lbs and the little XTM24.7 in it carries it around just fine!

The black savage is mine with the 24.7 in it:

You can't tell me the extra 1lb and a decent 28 won't make that sucker scream. Especially with the 3-speed. Change the gearing a bit and I'll guarantee it will be quicker off the line. My guess is that they have it geared tall for the vid for speed purposes. Which seems stupid since the vid doesn't show much for flat out running.

I'll agree with many of you though on that it looks kind of silly with a wide body and skinny chassis. But, like others said, in this economy, it appears to be a compromise for a 4wd 1/5 "size" rig.

This is true. 15lbs. isn't too bad if you have a solid .28 in it. It's really gonna just boil down to price whether it's a good value or not.

i dont see this thing on the hpi website. i read somewhere this was a fluke. just an extended savage with a 5t body.

just an extended savage with a 5t body.

That's pretty much all it is really. Nothing out of the box here. I imagine it's actually kind of light for a 1/5 scale vehicle. I just have to question the durability with all the extra length. There's a lot of leverage going on there ya know.

its on HPI japan.

I know the savage platform is great but come on hpi, you can only extend the chassis and rebadge it so many times..:D

if you look on the original link that was posted it says its only extended 2.2 inches

Newly designed Main Chassis

The front part of the main chassis is 2.2 inch longer to accept 1/5th scale wheelbases. The extended part has two cross braces to minimize chassis twist.

has anyone done this conversion or know where there are pics of savys with this conversion. Looks pretty bad ass!!!

looks overpriced to me.

5" is too much on a savage. You need a ballpark to turn around.

I agree it does look overpriced, but I was thinking of making up a longer set like that but not sure what there is for body options out there. We have alot of gravel pits in the area so space isn't a problem

Might be alot of fun, sounds like it is built pretty heavy duty, and the weight sounds good, 15lbs, lots of modded savys weigh close to that. The size of that thing might make it pretty impressive! Price is the biggest factor, hope they don't try to charge us 1/5 scale coin for a streached out 1/8 scale.
