Hi guys,

firstly, thanks to everyone who helped me in choosing which are the good nitro trucks for my other half...i finally decided i would get him the 4.6.

I just wanted to know if anyone has had any motor problems with them? had a guy the other day tell me he's motor went on his after 2 races.
has anyone else had any problems like this so soon?

Thanks :)
Sarah

I don't race, but the K4.6 in my SS has been very durable. As long as you take the time to break it in properly and keep it tuned right, it can last quite a while.

Proper break-in,tuning and care go along way toward life expectancy. From what I have heard the 4.6 is usually a good engine, just not the most powerful for it's size.

Thats what i thought. i think for the price you pay it should definitely last a while. If you do break it in properly and tune it right, how long are they expected to last?

Well i originally had the 3.5 for him but then i was told they're pretty old now and there not making anymore so shops arent selling them. So i figured might as well upgrade and get the 4.6.
I was quoted $1050au for everything from the truck (750) and all the started pack, batteries, charger, glow plug, and front bar. and they guy told me he would give us 4 litres of fuel and run it in for us.
it sounds like a good deal but i hope it is cause i'm only new to all this :0 haha

Not sure on the prices there, but I personally wouldn't have them do the break-in. That's part of the learning experience and it really isn't that bad, but that's just my opinion.

Any way you go, I think you'll be VERY happy with the Savage!

If YOU do the break in, you not only get familiar with the engine and the carb settings, but you also get used to the controls and handling of the truck.
If you are handed a truck that's ready to rip, and you're not used to it, you will do some damage to it pretty quickly.
Do your own break in, learn to tune it and how to treat it, and it will return the favor with a good long life.

The stock 4.6 is a durable motor. It will be fine for racing.

i still have my k4.6 in my xss and that thing ripds it up. its a great mill. i also have 3 gallons through it. i havent had a single problem with it yet.

well my truck has been dead for the past 2 weeks until my bits arrived. took it out last night for a 20 minute rip around the road, and no joke, it used about 50ml of fuel... christ the engine was hot, and i was angry at myself I didn't check the temps 5 minutes into the bash, but yeah... it just goes to show that even at 300+F it's a strong engine. I richened it right up and let it idle for a couple of minutes to let it cool down slowly.

I guess the engines life (apart from duds) really depends on how you tune and care for it
