Hello all I am new here. I have a used HPI RS4 Evo. It seems to take quite awhile to get started. It is used and has already been broken in. Once I finally get it started and I am running it around for awhile and go from slow speed to full throttle i get a pop and the engine shuts off. I am getting the white smoke from the exaust which in the instruction say is normal and good. I was wondering if i have an internal engine problem or just a tuning problem. I have the Idle speed scre flush I cannot turn the needle valve it seems as if someone has crimped it so it will not turn. I am using 20% Coiuld I possibly have a faulty glow plug? After is cuts off it is a chore to get it restarted. Also notice a black oily residue on the body by the exhaust outlet. Is this normal? New to these so try not to beat me up too much. Thanks for any and all help

hey MiniDoc. Welcome to the world of Nitro. first of all, How old is the mill(engine). I would change out the entire carb and have the Mill rebuilt. I never trust a Mill in a used car even if it looks like it was clean and taken care of. Most hobby shops can do a rebuild for about 40-50 plus parts. sometimes its worth it. Sometimes its worth to just by a new engine and start fresh and new. You really can't do anything if the high speed needle setting is crimped. might as well stop right there. You want more of a blue smoke coming out. the black oily residue means there is dirtinside the motor. there could be an oily discharge especialy during break in, but it should not be black. It cold be gold in color, or even dark yellow. But never black, (another indication the Mill is screaming to be put out of its misery.) Your idle screw should not be flush. you need to be able to play with the idle as well. seems like whoever you got the car from just didnt realize that you need to adjust settings more than once. air temp plays a big factor in the engines performance and adjusting more often then not is normal. Good luck and you have alot of friendly advice in this forum.

i like tinkering anyway so its not a big deal to me. It would not be as fun to me if i just bought a brand new one, broke it in and drove... i would rather tinker with a used one and have more fun. I would have spent the same money either way b/c i would ahve bought aftermarket parts for either or. Sooo not a big deal to me..I got it for $85, Not losing much even with a new engine. which i found on ebay for $50 brand new T15....sooo..thanks for the input.
