Same reason that HPI and Hot Bodies offer RC's I guess, Kinda like how you can buy a GMC 2500 HD pickup or a Chevy 2500 HD pickup, different companies under the same ownership like to offer different products to give customers a choice I guess.

So how come HPI released one and Hot Bodies released the other? I thought they were both part of the same company!

It's all about marketing. Just like Charlie mentioned about the 2500 pickups. GMC is a "premium" brand, whereas Chevrolet is the everybody can afford one brand.

Exactly, great way to explain it. The fact that the trucks are almost identical in price range now, and that Chevrolet is now offering luxury models as a way or reacting to demand from the public over the years has nothing to do with it, it's all about marketing.

Another more clear example would be the Toyota and Lexus companies. Several years ago when we bought a Lexus, The Toyota Avalalon and the Lexus ES 400 were almost identical in size, drivetrain, interior comfort, etc... The suspension was similar, although more was spent engineering the Lexus suspension, and the engines were based on the same platform, as was the chassis. The price of the models was quite close, but you can believe that a lot of people who would never think of buying a Lexus were driving the Avalon, and a lot of people who probably didn't consider a Toyota were driving the Lexus. It's all about marketing and perception.

The HPI tires look like an open lug masher, I think they will do pretty good. As far as looks go, IMO the Flat Irons are about the best looking tires out there....Most of them are ugly.

Rock Crawling tyres are rarely pretty. That's very true. The open block treads and weird tread patterns, combined with the balloon look of them makes them look really strange.

I have a set or Flat Irons for my WK but they look dumb on Axial bead-locks with the HPI wheel spacers, because they are a narrow tyre/wheel combo. They are a great looking Mud-Terrain type tyre though.

The reason I was confused about the tyres between Hot Bodies and HPI is not because they are different companies with different markets, it's because HB seem to be selling what from a distance looks like the more competition biased tyre. I always thought HB sold cheap crap and HPI sold the really good stuff? I think HPI's tyre is shooting at a more crawler-biased tyre for the Wheely King maybe? Same overall pattern, different tread? I dunno.

Even bigger example, The Chevrolet Avelanche, and the Caddy Escalade EXT. Same exact truck, different emblems.

yeap, same with the Escalade and the Yukon Denali

Now what were we talking about before the thread was attacked with a massave derailment... Engineer of this topic must have been trying to send a text message while driving a passenger train :hehe:

does any one know if these HPI's or even the Hot bodies are out yet? if so u know who's selling them?

No technically HPI doesn't either, just a crawler conversion, I'm thinking that there's a crawler on the way soon though.
