First of all, I just joined the RC Nitro Talk today, and from what I see on the forums, looks like this will be a a great place to get information as well as sharing experiences.

I'm looking to buy the HPI R40. I've been reading some reviews in some magazine articles, and sounds like it is one of the best, just by all the adjustments that can be made to it. Though, I've never owned a R/C Car, I figured if I'm going to do it, I might as well start with something good, then buying 3 or 4 cars, and end up buying an R40 or something of that nature.

Can someone tell me a good engine to purchase for it?

If any of you have put one together, is the kit pretty hard to put together? I was told it's the best way to learn about your R/C car than purchasing a RTR.

I do own 1 R/C which is the same as the one on my signature picture. Unfortunately, it has become more of a collectors item than anything else. I've only seen 3 of them online including mine. It's never been used and sits there where with my other collection items.

I'm hoping to get some R/C pictures and movies up on my site. You can click signature picture for more info.

But anyways, you'll be seeing more of me around. Just wanted to say hello and get to meet some of you on here.

ameanz - Welcome to RCNT!!! WE all hope u stay for a nice long time.

The R40 is a great kit! Probably perfect for a new racer such as yourself. Plus - being an HPI, there is plenty of parts support when u break things ... and trust me, u will break things.

There are alot of great engines out there, but if u are new to the nitro side of the hobby, i would recommend an OS Max brand engine, as they are without a doubt the easiest to tune and get runnning properly.

For that car - I would recommend the OS Max .12TR

Another great engine is the new Mugen MR12. But this will require some experience to break in and tune properly.

The HPI kit is very easy to assemble - a good friend of mine just got one, and he is very happy with it. Good Luck!

Take some pictures of the build process along the way, and post them in the members project forum.

Keep in touch, and ask as many questions as you want!

Once again, welcome to RCNT

Thank you

Thank you for the warm welcome and for your input information. This is exactly what I was looking for. People willing to help and provide opinions as well as experience. Especially as being fairly new to this field, it will take me some time to learn things, but I'm a firm believer of helping others once I get my experience built up.

Thank you again for your information.

Michael.

no problem, mean z - please let myself and the other forum members know, if u have anymore questions.

A local friend of mine just got the R40, as i said before, and his screen name here is racerx. Feel free to PM him with any questions u may have. He is using the Novarossi version of the MR12 as a powerplant.

I guess that would be me lol

yeah i love the car, i only got to race it once and unfortunatly i broke a dogbone, and i hadnt gotten spare parts yet :(

anyways I'm racing again this sunday, ill let you know how it goes

if you have any questions about the kit go ahead and ask away

and yeah i put the MT-12 in it, i have the OS 12tr in another car and wanted to try something different, they are both great engines. the OS is much easier in the tunning department

I have one too and it was fairly easy to put together. I have the Mugen motor in mine, but I cheated for breakin. I had it lapped in by the guy at the shop to make it easier. He does everyones motor and nobody has ever had a problem with their motor. The only problem that I am having with mine is getting the clutch to engage just right. Alot of trial and error.

Overall, I love the car. Handles great very easy to maintain. HPI did their homework when it came to ease of maintence. The whole modular setup for the front and rear is a blessing when working on the car.

Welcome and Good Luck!!

Chad
